being called up to the NHL from OHL

Post by bigE88 on Thu Oct 22, 2009 7:09 pm

as a long suffering and fed up Leaf fan can they call Kadri up from the London Knights ? everyone says they can't unless its an emergency. I know Steve Mason was called up to Columbus two years ago due to no goaltenders in their system, but Shawn Mathias was called to Florida as well for emergency reasons. Did Florida have no capeable people under contract in the AHL in order to do this ?? I find that hard to believe.

Could Calvin deHaan be called up the Islanders is another question to ask.

Are the leafs playing yet? They don't have any points yet. Oh well I will watch another out for a skate game Saturday likely then a real game Sunday.

It might have something to do with whether or not the player is signed to en entry level contract. Such players could be assigned back to the Junior team, then called up?

he's signed by the Leafs to an entry level deal. He would be an upgrade to the crap they have now anyway

The player has to be at least 20 years old to play on the farm team. I believe when both Mason and Matthias were called up, their OHL seasons were over, and they were already signed to entry level contracts, therefore allowing them to play in the NHL.

Kadri and de Haan, don't qualify, because a) they are not 20 years old and b) the season isn't over.
