| | as of today the date is not public knowledge.... although there is conflicting information ..... game times were moved up at all weeknight games because the new building is accessible enough to do so.... not sure what the first weeknight game is but that to me means they are gonna be in the building sooner rather then later..... the home opener is said to be at the windsor arena probably..... i think it should be even if its the only game played there.... every barn deserves a send off |

| I'm also throwing this out there and will wait for some responses. There is also a possible over night trip in Oct to Sarnia /Plymouth, but it is I think two weeks apart from the Saginaw / Windsor trip, may be more than all the fans would be interested in. I am willing to try for both if the interest is there. I will be calling the bus lines today to get my quotes in, now that I have the schedule so early for a change for me .

| I would be especially interested in the Windsor trip if it is in the old arena.........
do we need passports to cross the border now? _________________ If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice. |

| You definitely need passports for cross-border travel now. If anyone needs one, the Whitby office is remarkably fast. They told me it would take two weeks, I received my new passport in the mail in six days! Plus, it only took 30-40 minutes to get me through at the passport office. They might have sped it up a bit because I went three weeks before I leave for my cousin's wedding down in the US. Either way, I'm glad I did that in Whitby rather than in Toronto where I've heard horror stories about how long it takes.
A bit pricey though, $87 now! |

| You don't need a passport yet at the border for car crossing. Please note the following from U.S. Border security website:
By Land and Sea (including ferries) - Canadian citizens generally are not required to have a visa or a passport (until Summer of 2009) and may visit the U.S. for up to 6 months. However, Canadians must be able to prove their identity and citizenship to enter the United States. CBP will accept either a birth certificate, citizenship certificate or passport as proof of citizenship. If the Canadian citizen does not have any of these because they were lost or stolen, we emphasize that the burden of proof is on the traveler to prove that they are Canadian citizens. Copies of correspondence requesting a replacement of documents, etc. might be accepted, but it is up to the CBP officer to determine whether or not such paperwork meets that burden of proof. Canadians coming as a Treaty Trader (and family), Fiances/Fiancees (and their children)and spouses and children of legal permanent residents are required to have a visa to enter the U.S. If you cross by land or sea, then fly to another U.S. destination, you do not need a passport.
It's interesting they don't mention drivers licences. I have always had to show both my birth certificate AND my drivers licence whenever I go to Philadephia. |

Ah I didn't realized they had pushed it back again. At one point, the changeover was to be January '08 to start demanding passports when driving across. It looks like driver's license + birth certificate is acceptable after all until June 1, 2009.
The Canadian Foreign Affairs site mentions that birth certificate and driver's license combination is still okay.
