2014/2015 Seasons Tickets Empty 2014/2015 Seasons Tickets

Post by Phoenix Thu Feb 20, 2014 10:22 am

Just received our renewal form in the mail yesterday. We will be in the third year of our 3-year commitment, so paying for next year's tickets will not be a big problem.  I noted that deposits are due by April 1/14. This is in addition to playoff ticket payment being due by March 15/14.

However, when I see the price of tickets now and how much they have increased in the past 2 years, I am actually shocked. We have a pair of bowl seats which cost $439.29 each based on 2012/2013 prices.  I see that for 2014/2015, season price for a new 3-year commitment is $508 each, or $540 for just the one year.

Wow! This is a difference of $70 (or more if buying just the one year)! And I am assuming the cost will rise again for 2015/2016 tickets.

Maybe it would have almost been easier to just pay a year at a time and slowly absorb the increase in costs each year.  I think we will be suffering extreme sticker shock next March. In fact, I don't know about anyone else, but we may find that a pair of season tickets will have become a cost too large for our limited budget to bear and we may have to bail out for 2015/2016. This would be sad after being season ticket holders for, I don't know, 25 years or so. But we're not getting any income increases even remotely similar to the increased ticket costs and mightn't have any choice.

HST

They don't include it on the 439.29 u r speaking of.

It works out to about 65 so about 500 a seat.

Prices don't look to have changed much.

Ok, so maybe I had the numbers not right because I had neglected the much hated HST. Each ticket at the beginning of our 3 year commitment was $496. So, maybe the increase isn't huge, but it is still significant, particularly if you are purchasing more than one ticket - like for a couple or for a family, etc

$496 to $508 over two years is a 1.2% annual increase. I'm thinking the price of a lot of other things has gone up by more than that. If your salary has gone up by more than 1.2%, you are actually paying less for your Gens tickets than before although being on a fixed income or having a job with no raise (or no job) would obviously be more challenging. Either way, it's pretty amazing value for your entertainment dollar. My TFC season ticket price is almost identical $513 but it only includes 19 games, the Gens give you 34. (Different sport, different level I know but just for comparison sake).

Put this into perspective ... $513 bucks can't even buy you a pair or platinum tickets for a a Tuesday night Leafs game vs the Florida Panthers.
A 1% increase in season ticket prices is really not a huge deal. As years pass prices go up for everything, hockey tickets included.. It's part of life. I understand with minimal disposable income in can become a tough decision to continue to renew your season tickets, but as far as entertainment value goes Oshawa Generals season tickets are a bargain.
34 Generals games for 513
1 Leafs game with a friend
5 Raptors games
5 concerts
Just keep in mind the worst seat in the GM Centre is still a lower bowl seat in any NHL arena/concert Venue.
