Well this came completely out of left field.
It's confirmed, 24 year old Eric Wellwood will be the new assistant coach coming in to round out the coaching staff.
He retired last night and was immediately hired as DJ Smith's assistant.

Wellwood was always an extremely smart hockey player,
Known for his high hockey IQ and solid 200 foot play, I'm certain he has the hockey knowledge capable of coaching. It important to note, Wellwood was a special
Assistant coach in Windsor last season while rehabing his injury, an from all reports Bob Boughner & Warren Rychel where extremely impressed by his knowledge of the game an work ethic an would have themselves offered a assistant coach position had one been open. The Philadelphia Flyers had also offered him a job in player development & as an off ice assistant coach(aka not behind the bench). So despite his age an lack of experience he may actually be a great fit behind the bench.
It's also important to note Roger Hunt will not be behind the bench this season as he will fully concentrate on his GM duties. I'm assuming this means another assistant of some sort will be coming in at some point.

Good for Eric on getting the job an best of luck as I'm sure he's happy to be an OHL coach but devastated by his hockey playing career to be ending.

Hey Macker; I read somewhere that DJ wanted only a two man bench this year so this could be it for assistants.

From what I've read and heard around the rinks, it is gonna be a two man group.
