Re: CHL Euro Draft
Here's just a little more detail on both of the Generals Import Picks. Both of whom are expected to report. The Ottawa Senators really like Lindberg playing in the OHL rather then playing a limited role on an Allsvenskan (Swedish 2 League) Team, or being overly dominate in the Super elite Junior league.
Tobias Lindberg, 6'3, 198lbs. July,22.1995
(RW/C) Shoots - Left. Stockholm, Sweden
2013 4th Round Pick, 102nd Overall of Ottawa Senators
In 2012-13 Lindberg played the majority of his season with the Djurgarden Jr U-20 Team, appearing in 43 Games, scoring 9 goals, 13 assists for 22 points. He added 30 penalty minutes and was a minus 2. Lindberg also suited up for 5 games with Djurgarden in the Allsvenskan, where he had 1 assist in 5 games. He also suited up for 2 games with the Swedish National U-18 team, scoring 2 goals and adding 1 assist for 3 point.
2013-14, Lindberg appeared in 38 games with Djurgarden's Junior U-20 team, scoring 7 goals & adding 15 assists for 22 points. He also added 93 penalty minutes and was a minus 6. He again appeared with Djurgarden of the Allsvenskan where he suited up for 3 games, recording no points. Lindberg was also a member of the Swedish National U-19 team, appearing in 4 games, adding 0 points.
What you can expect, Likely a player to play any where in the Generals top 9. A big body who isn't shy physically. Not a natural goal scorer, but can put the puck in the net. His stats should pretty much translate to the OHL. So expect some where around 15 goals 25-30 assists. Those assumptions are on the high end.
Sonny Hertzberg 6'2, 187lbs. April.21,1995
(D) Shoots-Left. Herning, Denmark
In 2012-2013 Herzberg suited up with Frolunda's Jr U-20 team, appearing in 14 games, scoring 1 goal, adding 6 penalty minutes & a plus 5 rating. He also suited up for his Country representing Team Denmark at the U-18 tournament. Denmark competed in the Division 1A an not the top Division, none the less they won gold and Hertzberg contributed 1 goal & 1 assist along with 2 penalty minutes and a plus 1 rating in 5 games.
In 2013-2014 Hertzberg became more of a regular with Frolunda's Jr U-20 team, appearing in 42 games, scoring 4 goals and 9 assists for 13 points, to go along with 63 penalty minutes and a plus 35 rating. He also helped Denmark to Gold at the World Juniors Division 1A tournament where he appeared in all 5 games scoring 2 goals & 2 assists for 4 points and 6 penalty minutes.
What you can expect, your guess is as good as mine, I was unable to find an video or reliable scouting reports. I hate to go on stats but give his 6'2 187 frame and his 63 penalty minutes last season, he seems to have a physicality to his game. He must be pretty sound defensively to rack up a plus 35 rating. An while not outstanding offensive numbers, he does show some point producing ability. Based on all of this, he'll probably start on the bottom pairing and work his way up or out of the lineup.
Projected Line-up Post CHL Import Draft
Dal Colle - Cassles - Smith
Lindberg - Sterk - Latour
Dundas - Harding - Wallace
Turner - Pu - Busch
X's - McDade, Manchurek,
Brown - Petschenig
Vande Sompel - Desrocher
Hertzberg - Carlisle
X's - Templeton
Appleby
Brodeur
Mabley
I don't mind the roster as it sits, I think we can expect improvements in Cassles, Dal Colle, Smith, Latour & Sterk. As well as the development of guys like Wallace, Harding & Busch to progress. It will be interesting to see how 1st Round Pick Cliff Pu fits into the depth chart, he's a skilled player with limited check ability so for me he's top 6 or a 4th liner. US born Michael Turner likely will provide steady bottom 6 minutes. An it will be interesting to see how Lindberg adjusts to the North American game.
Defensively, I think with Brown likely returning, Petschenig continually improving, same with Desrocher & Vande Sompel we should be okay. Although I'd love to see the import kid Hertzberg make an impact. Carlisle will need to show worth, to be kept as an OA, as Stephen Templeton also is coming in an he will play right away. In goal Kenny seemed to take a step forward this year, it will be interesting to see how he handles the starters role, an just exactly how good is Brodeur.
I'd like to see an upgrade on the 2nd line, if Chase Pearson comes to Oshawa, we get that without a trade. Also come trade deadline a more natural goal scorer would be helpful in the top 6. Defensively we need to upgrade on Carlisle as an OA. A true top 4 guy would be ideal.

Re: CHL Euro Draft
Excellent update, Macker. Have the Gens dropped Blueger whom they drafted in 2012 or is he too old?

Re: CHL Euro Draft
I haven't heard anything, but I think it's safe to assume Blueger has been dropped
Re: CHL Euro Draft
thanks for the report !!! however at trade deadline we should be moving , casssels , dalcolle, latour , sterk , for 6 or more 2nd round picks for 2015 and 2016 , cuz currently we don't have any , and you don't build a winner on 3rd and 4th round drafts …….when i say winner i mean OHL winner , memorial cup bound ! this path we've been on the past 17 years is boring now !!!!!

Re: CHL Euro Draft
I think you've pretty much hammered home your views on the whole re-build in Oshawa. I mean I agree we need to re-acquire some 2nd & 3rd round picks and even more top 100 picks, especially if we're going to take risks on Americans not reporting or even Canadians going the College route.
However, given the Generals roster situation this season, I doubt they're going to rebuild. If Chase Pearson ends up reporting (which the chances have increased apparently) this team has one of the best top 6 in the OHL. The Goaltending situation isn't ideal, but it's still one of the better situations in the OHL. An defensively we have two solid young d-men in Vande Sompel & Desrocher. Brown will be back as an OA, Petschenig is easily one of the most improve d-men in the league. Throw in an upgrade of Carlisle, the import an Stephen Templeton an you have a very strong team.
It's likely the Generals are a top 5 team this season, an just like last year a top 5 team adds it doesn't subtract, despite leaving the team bare for the following seasons.

In the local paper Hunt said to be going to Ottawa Thursday (yesterday) to Senator's Camp to talk to Tobias Lindberg but also allow him a chance to speak to defenseman Kelly Summers, a Generals pick who was selected in the seventh round of Saturday’s NHL draft. Summers has indicated he will play hockey on scholarship next year at Clarkson University.

Re: CHL Euro Draft
Too bad about Summers. We have known for a while he had committed to Clarkson but he would be a nice addition as would be Pearson.
