Thank you for taking the time, Macker! The Gens don't share much about players on their "50 list" so any insights you can provide are appreciated.

Thanks for the report , well the prospects aren't burning up their respective leagues , , not much in the cupboard as they say , we need early draft choices in the coming years I think

Generals Prospects Report - October 2014 Empty Re: Generals Prospects Report - October 2014

From what I've seen so far, and throughout last season for the '96 & '97 prospects I think our '98 draft class is the most promising.

Riley Stillman, may not be burning up the OPJHL stats wise, he is one of the best defensemen on the Cougars roster, as a 16 year old he's played in every situation, and while his offensive stats aren't overwhelming, he should easily slide into the Gens lineup next season.

Domenic Commisso, a tad undersized but produces every where he's played, the jump from AAA to Tier 2 Jr isn't easy for a 16 year old and the jump from AAA to the OHL is even harder, that's why only the elite of the elite contribute from day one. With that being said, by the Christmas break I expect Commisso to be close to the PPG rate. For a 16 year old in even tier 2 Jr. that's a very impressive task. He should see bottom 6 minutes the Gens next season, and progress into a top 6 role by year 3 of his Junior career.

Zachary Senecal, Seen him play live once, seen some video though, and the kid has impressive stats. He's produced at every level, I'm shocked to see him playing Midget AAA rather then in the NOJHL Jr. A loop, but hey prime 1st line minutes in midget AAA are sometime better for a players development then bottom 6 minutes on a middle of the pack tier 2 Junior A or Jr. B team.

Dawson Shackleton, If you like rough, no nonsense player you'll love Shackleton, what he might lack in overall skill he more then makes up for with effort and compete level. His physicality will be greatly welcomed, a great team first player, blocks shots, hits, fights. If he gets 10 points this season that would be a lot for him. But offense is not his game. He'll translate into a bottom pairing defenseman, with a high upside being paired with an elite level 1 or 2 defender.

Are goalies drafted have all been impressive, caught game tape of Joseph Woll's performance vs a USHL team an he looked great. Feel he'd have no problem being a capable OHL back up right now. He's Un-Committed to Harvard University, but still looks to be looking the NCAA route. If we can bring him in we suddenly have an abundance of good goaltending prospects vying for the net next season. Eric Jackson opted to rather start the Majority of a very good Midget AAA teams games then be a back up in tier 2. For goalies playing midget AAA in my opinion is actually better then backing up at the Jr. B or A level. Jackson I've caught twice this season, looked very good in the Toronto Titans Midget Tourny. I honestly believe he could push Devine for the back up role next year. Devine has been getting starts every 3rd or 4th game with the Jr. B Guelph Hurricanes, being out in that area quite a bit I've seen him play in all 3 of his starts, I'd say he looked great, good and bad. He lacks some rebound control right now, and sometimes has trouble reacting, but when he's on, those issues seem to be non existent. Which for me is a good thing, it shows he's got the natural ability, its a maturing and consistency issue, and while consistency issues aren't ideal, most 16 year olds tend to grow out of them by Junior season 2 or 3

Chase Pearson has been slow out of the gate, and it shows in his numbers. However he isn't a pure offensive threat like say a Michael Dal Colle, he's more a Sam Harding with a little more sand paper to his game. He's got a high level hockey IQ and likes the physical game. The USHL suites him fine, however the College route in my opinion is the wrong way to go for him. His game suites the OHL. He'd be more effective an his draft stock would rise, considering he's yet to commit to an NCAA program, if Pearson's slow play continues he may be more willing to come to the OHL as a fresh starts of sorts in his ever important draft year.

Kelly Summers, if the Generals were able to convince Kelly Summers to come to the OHL, he'd do wonders for the club. Would strengthen the D-Core which he all now could be an issue. The Addition of summers would likely push a top guy out of the lineup and make him valuable trade bait (likely Carlisle), but with Carlisle moving if it goes the way I see it, it opens another OA spot, which in turn could allow us to add another Veteran defender or OA forward. An lets be honest.. if we did add summers, move out Carlisle and pick up an OA defender, Herztberg is likely to want out, having not come to Canada to watch games, thus would open another Import spot. Hey while I'm throwing out scenarios, maybe James De Haas, a fellow Clarkson University player may bolt the school along with Summers for the Generals, seeing as we do own his rights. That thought would be a long shot.. however his numbers weren't stellar as a freshmen. But he is a Red Wings prospect and they develop guys til their 30 then give them a shot.

Not to be pessimistic but it's highly unlikely we will ever see Woll, Pearson. Summers or Cecconi in a Gens uniform. Gens longshots (flyers) seldom show. They only show up in Windsor, London, Plymouth and Kitchener where they have aggressive management, something that's been lacking here forever!

I agree, they're likely not going to show up, just included them more or less so fans can see what the Generals did with their picks and where those picks are. The only guy I can see coming is Pearson, I can see him being a Tyler Biggs type though, where he comes for a year then is gone. This year its unlikely he comes, next year, given how many holes we have up front, whatever NHL team drafts him might push him to the OHL, seeing as he'd get tons of ice, develop under a great coach, an play a schedule comparable to the NHL.
Woll is uncommitted but he's like to the NCAA as soon as he finds a program where he'll start sooner rather then later, best case scenario is the Generals flip him to a team like Windsor or London who could definitely use goaltending help. I think the Generals need to get something for guys that don't report. Belleville seems to cash in on scenarios like that, Daniel Altshueller and Mike McCarron of the top of my head.

Cecconi is committed to Michigan but they have a lot of solid D returning next year and lots of top notch D committed, he's unlikely but wouldn't completely shock me to see him in the OHL. Although it may not be with the Gens.
