Sonny Hertzberg

What happened to Sonny? There was an article printed in Sweden about his arrival, placement with his billets, and how eager he was to be starting camp?

I was thinking the same thing. Not on any of the Gens training camp lists since the announcement of his signing signing! Strange!

Still on the web site, and his personal twitter reads he will be wearing #18.

Oops, I just checked the roster on the Gens site and he is there now! He does exist!

Update... apparently Hertzberg scored a hat trick playing for his country's Under 20 national team somewhere yesterday. (on HF Boards!)

More update. Sonny is on the Danish team playing in a tournament against teams in the Alberta Junior League which finishes on 31st. Should see him in town then.

Is Sonny Hertzberg injured? I cant seem to find resent game stats about him?

He played on Friday night against Ottawa. Looked very good.

He got scratched because he looked terrible Friday, he's got natural ability, it's clear as day, but the speed an temp of the OHL game is gettin to him at some points during the game. He's making bad reads an poor turnovers, I can see him splitting games with Robertson until one of them steps up an claims the spot. DJ was rippin into Sonny pretty much every time he came off the ice Friday, constantly was shacking his head when Sonny would make questionable plays, he's clearly in the dog house at this point.

I thought Friday's game on the whole was pretty sloppy and felt we were lucky to win the game against a much weaker team. I saw lots of bad passes and turnovers by many players. I chalked it up to over confidence and not taking Ottawa too seriously. Having said that, I thought Sonny blended in to a bad night. Watched him during the warm up and liked what I saw.

yes he looks very shaky at this point , i think he missed a lot of training camp , maybe that has something to do with it , getting adjusted

He missed training camp but was playing for his national team against Alberta Jr. A hockey teams. He's definitely struggling to adjust to the OHL game at this point an time. I'd keep getting him in games against weaker opponents an see how he fairs after another 5-10 games. Keeping him away from Kitchener was a smart move by DJ

It seems like Sonny is finding his ways, how do you guys think his i doing so far? Strenghs? Weaknesses? Furture on Generals roster?

I don't know if Sonny is finding his way. The only thing is Sonny finding is finding his way to not dressing
yesterdays game (Saginaw) at least gave the puck away 3 times and took two dumb penalties. For a      19 year  that's unacceptable I would rather have one of the younger rookie defenseman play instead.
I think the OHL is to fast for Sonny. Nothing personal just my opinion.

Agreed. He had some really bad stretches last night. Both penalties were not good and he had a long sit on the bench after the second one. I was surprised to see him let out and only assume he got out was due to the Spirit being a much weaker team and the score being lop sided.

Although he does put in a good shift every once in a while which leads me to believe he can play at this level with a lot of hard work and focus on his end.

Thanks guys, any information about Hertzberg is very valuable to me as it is next too impossible to follow the Generals and Sonny from across the pond.

I don't understand why Hertzberg is playing over Templeton or even Robertson. Hertzberg, is not better then either, an if he is it's by a very very smile margin. Robertson an Templeton will be expected to take on bigger roles next year, you'd think playing your young prospects over a euro who's guaranteed to be gone next year would make sense. Or at least a rotation of some sort, how do Robertson or Templeton develop by not playing...

i agree Macker Hertsberg is a liability on defense , i guess they are giving him extra opportunity cuz he came from so far away , but i don't see him working out . this is not show friends ! this is show business !!!!!


i still say gens need to get a big tough veteran D man to really solidify the lineup !
