Kevin Bailie (great award for classy guy)

Former London Knights and Oshawa Generals goaltender Kevin Bailie has received the Robinson-Kelleher Memorial Award given to Belleville's Athlete of the Year.
The 23 year-old Queen's Golden Gaels varsity men's hockey goaltender recorded a 1.98 goals against-average, a .934 save percentage and two shutouts in 20 games as a rookie in 2013-14 to capture the Clare Drake Award as CIS Rookie of the Year. Bailie also earned several OUA East awards that included MVP, Top Goalie, Rookie of the Year, First Team All-Star and All-Rookie Team selection.
In addition to his on-ice success, Bailie was also productive in the classroom in pursuit of a law degree, claiming CIS All-Academic honours.
A four-year OHL veteran from 2008-2013, Bailie is one of hundreds of graduates to take advantage of their CHL education package.
“I'm surprised CIS hockey doesn't get more publicity and respect,” he told the Belleville Intelligencer's Paul Svoboda. “When I was playing in the OHL, some people viewed it as a step down. But it's actually an extension of the CHL. It's faster, more physical and you're competing against guys in their 20s."
“The only difference is you don't have those X-factor guys. The guys who go from junior to the NHL.”
Bailie joins a fellow OHL graduate in goaltender Andrew Raycroft to win the Robinson-Kelleher Award. Raycroft, who played three OHL seasons between Sudbury and Kingston from 1997-2000, won the award in the same season that he was named CHL Goaltender of the Year in 2000 before going on to an NHL career spent with Boston, Toronto, Colorado, Vancouver and Dallas.
“I remember seeing the award when I was younger at the Honours and Awards Night,” Bailie told the Intelligencer. “Winning it was always a goal of mine and I was nominated for it a couple of times before. To win it now is a great honour."
Bailie played in a total of 136 OHL games, recording a 3.44 goals against-average, an .896 save percentage and record of 60-41-5-6 with four shutouts.
The Belleville native recorded a 2.59 goals against-average and a .922 save percentage to go with a 10-13-0 record with Queen's this past season.
Bailie is the 30th recipient of the Robinson-Kelleher Memorial Award since its reinstatement in 1985 by the late Al Kelleher
