Upcoming 2011 Midget draft - early May
Well - This draft coming may be the first time in a few years that we may just draft the best player available
Some will say it should be a top defenseman - some say goal - I say if our turn comes and the best is a BIG center take him
The big? IS Who will draft Domi - could go in the top 10 - also another Subban will be drafted - Calvin 's brother Evan Dehaan is eligible

Well, if it's a big centreman you want, you don't pick Domi. And, I think we learned our lesson about picking a goalie in the first round with Zador and Bailie both being first round picks! The goalie should come from the Euro draft. I don't think de Haan is ranked anywhere as high as hie older brother.

You are right - Calvin's brother is rated 6th rd - so it why not take a flyer
On the Domi issue - I heard an interview on the fan with Peter DeBoer who is very high on Domi - expect him to be picked before we get a shot
Our last Euro goalie was a bust

Do you remember who drafted our last Euro goalie and Bailie, just incase you forgot his name was Brad Selwood
(aka "DEKE")

Teams very very seldom draft a goalie in the first round. Domi is rated very high, but is on the smallish side, like his dad, and will be gone before the Gens get a crack at him. I don't remember who was the last Euro goalie we drafted, not traded for. Someone refresh my memory...thanks!

Thanks, steamed! I can't believe I didn't remember those guys; maybe because Kovar wasn't here too long. Both were adequate to good but not outstanding as I recall.

Grauwiler was awful.
Kovar was pretty decent.

I can't remember if Peter Budaj was an import with St. Mike's. He was an outstanding goaltender, one of the top goalies in the league. He was born in Slovakia, I assume he was an import pick. He's now with the Colorado Avalanche. In his best season with the Majors, his GAA was 2.29 and his save percentage was .922 with a record of 26-9-5 and led the team to the 2002 conference finals.

He was a great goalie, St Mikes always seems to find them ... remember Andy Chiodo and Justin Peters? They were about the same time period.

Re: Upcoming 2011 Midget draft - early May
I agree in that the Gens need to draft the best player available regardless of position. There is lots being said about Max Domi, not like his dad, highly skilled, small (sort of sounds like Thomas), but it doesn't look like he will be around by the time we draft. We need a goalie next year, but this draft is for down the road, not next year. Take the best available regardless of position.

Re: Upcoming 2011 Midget draft - early May
The drafted players will compete for jobs available next Sept - next year there will be 3 or 4 players from the May draft that will be on the team- so it is not for down the road
We will lose at least 5 or 6 players this year - gone for sure Berger - Dehart , Dehaan , DiSalvo plus some 19 yr olds

The Majors developed great goalkeepers due to their unique arena. Their goalies we were well practiced at tighter angles in the St. Mike's College Arena, and also at larger angles in arenas on road games. Dealing with the variety on a consistent basis was good preparation for all situtations in the game.
