Re: Owen McDade
What opportunity ? 50 games of 4th line minutes over the course of 3 seasons. I don't call that opportunity.
In fairness to McDade, he's not a top 6 type of player he belongs in the bottom 6, even with development he wasn't drafted as a offensively gifted player, he was drafted as a good two way Center with toughness, a high compete level & good leadership qualities. I firmly believe if McDade was given more opportunity/responsibility early on in his OHL career he could of become a decent checker. He in my opinion is very comparable to Aidan Wallace. Wallace was given opportunity .. He was not.
No hard feelings, I'm not complaining, simply staying to say he was given opportunity would be a bit much

I think Wallace earned his place with tireless , relentless effort and he has great wheels , Mcdade really didn't impress me with his compete level , when given a chance and. He certainly doesn't skate like Wallace , I heard he was tough However , but again didnt drop the gloves very often
He's young maybe he will get it together yet , but I don't think there is room for him on this team

Re: Owen McDade
Furthermore I think Manchurak is on the same bubble , if he doesn't pick up his game , he should be replaced as well , this isn't a development season for the gens , this is the season to fine tune and go for it , cuz next year we will drop considerably in the standings , lose a lot of guys

Re: Owen McDade
Looks like he is still on the 50 man protected list. The generals just put up a post officially regarding Owen.
mygens, I am thinking the same regarding Manchurak. Although he is showing improvement from last year and has separated himself from McDade.

Manchurak has the physical tools , just haven't seen the mental commitment yet from him

Re: Owen McDade
Would hate to see the Gens give up on Manchurek early, like a Cody Payne/Corey Cowick. Now Cowick did get a bit of top 6 minutes in his 2nd year he was a year away from that responsibility. He wanted to go back home to Ottawa unfortuatly and the Gens got back Valiqutte who didn't last long in Oshawa. Brett did not look like an OHL caliber player.
Manchurek has improved from last year. In limited minutes he got 8 goals and 18 points last year with only 8 PIMs. That's not too bad. And this year and 2 years ago in 12 games he has 0 PIMs so he doesn't hurt you that way. Hes a 96 so while there isn't room in the top 6 this year, id like to see him on the 2nd line the next 2 years. So he still has a lot of service left in this league.
Back to McDade if he can add some muscle and/or light it up down there, theres a chance he could be back. It wouldn't hurt to have another 96 in the lineup, the 96s we do have are all looking like they will be here for an OA year potentially. Busch, Manchurek and Desrocher are the current 96s. Not including Seeger because his status really is up the the air. Not sure if he will be given a chance.
But McDade has been rumored for a while to be going to and up and coming team in Ottawa, he does have 3 years left so the possibly is realistic if they want him.

Re: Owen McDade
Joe Manchurek is an interesting case, I completely agree that after this season Joe, if he sticks around will likely be a key top 6 forward. I mean he was drafted out of the Sun County Panthers program where he put up 28 goals & 29 assists for 57 points in 45 games, an added 72 penalty minutes. He has a unique mix of size and skill, and he's showed a willingness to drop the mitts at times. My biggest issue with Manchurek is consistency, for every 1 good game he has 3,4,5 games of subpar/going through the motions play. He can kill penalties fairly well, even on a "subpar" night. However when he's having those subpar nights, which is more often then not, he's not all that useful. I know the kids a '96 an we shouldn't give up on him just yet, but I feel if you can get decent value for him at this point, it should be thought about extensively. He's one of the only roster players I could see moving who has a decent trade value, and with the Generals looking like a Eastern Contender once again, they'll need to add a piece or two to become more serious of a threat.
McDade, I liked his game in the limited views I had of him at the OHL. He was never really afforded the most significant of opportunities, but I believe heading to Pembroke rather then sitting out half the games again this season is a smart move for him an the Generals. He needs ice to develop and needs ice to get his confidence back, as a former player being scratched repeatedly after being a top Minor Midget AAA player and playing all situations, isn't easy to adjust to. I think with numerous forward spots opening up next season, McDade could provide solid 3rd line, energy minutes, contribute on the PK, throw the body around an drop the gloves here an there, while producing 10, maybe 15 goals on the high end and 25-30 points.
