Generals new web site
It's now August 2nd, and the new web site launch that was announced for August 1st hasn't happened yet. We always did have really slow updates to the old site. Nice to know things haven't changed

Re: Generals new web site
Does it really matter whether a website is released on August 1st or August 4th? The target date was probably "beginning of August" but the person who put that probably didn't realize it was a Saturday. If it's that important to you, I'm sure glad you didn't become a film critic. I'd never know what to watch because every movie would have terrible reviews, being nitpicked like crazy.

Re: Generals new web site
Beats it is called being organized and professional. When you say you are going to do something by a certain date/time/etc., you should do it. It doesn't matter how big or small it is. It is a commitment that was made. It is called responsibility. You being a school teacher, I would hope you teach the kids to be responsible and organized. When you give the kids a report to do by a certain date and they miss it, do you say oh well, no problem or do you reprimand them through some type of loss marks for lateness or some other kind of reprimand?
If the Generals or any other team/company/anyone posts that they will have something by a certain date, it should be there. If for some reason the date cannot be met, then they should communicate that ahead of time.
I myself don't care that it is late, bottom line though; people that are upset about it have a right to be.

Re: Generals new web site
I can give you a very specific example that is exactly like this. I goofed on the date because of how many days February had - stupid mistake but I made it - the due date ended up being on a Sunday. Upon writing it in their agenda, a student said "Hey isn't that a Sunday?" and I double-checked it and said she was correct and so it would be due the following Monday. If you (or any student of mine) wants to say I'm such a horribly disorganized teacher or judge my professionalism based on that moment of lapsed judgment, I feel that's being overly critical but anyone is entitled to their opinion. I'm willing to bet that out of the 28 students in that class, not only is nobody using that in their assessment of me as a teacher but that at the end of the term, nobody even remembered about that one minor mistake from several weeks ago.
You are correct that people have the "right" to be upset in the same way that I have the right to say that it's way over the top to criticize a mistake like "August 1st" vs first business day in August.
If it actually takes two weeks from now, fine that's a little different but my instinct is that we aren't seeing the new site because of the long weekend and that Tuesday sometime it will be up and running.

Re: Generals new web site
Relax Beats, I didn't say anything about your teaching (maybe you should read it again). In your example, you also corrected the date ahead of time just as I said it should be done in my note (again, read it again). You also seem to be making an assumption of why it is not there. Do you have the facts?
None of this matters anyway, the bottom line remains. Responsibility, Professionalism and Organization.
Cheers!!

Re: Generals new web site
I know you didn't imply about my teaching, I was just making an analogy to say that a couple of days with something like this is no big deal - had this been a different case - say season ticket holders pick up your tickets on September 10th and someone drives on September 12th from Bowmanville to Oshawa to pick up their tickets and they aren't ready - that would be reason to be upset. This is a hockey team website in early August and on a long weekend to boot - I just think some people on here are critical for the sake of being critical on the most trivial of things - it's a long weekend!
I don't have any facts - I'm just assuming the simplest answer - there isn't much business being conducted in any sector today other than perhaps cottage rentals. Enjoy the sunshine!

Re: Generals new web site
I made my original comment in jest. The old web site was always slow being updated. It seem fitting this "new" site is slow coming online.

They know it was the long weekend and should not of set a date, all's they had to do was say look for the new site August.I personally think nothing will happen till this so called town meeting in the middle of the month,so they can post the owner(s) and the rest of the staff pics.

I'd suggest they include a picture of the web master as well... but I'm afraid it would just be blank

Re: Generals new web site
Do you suppose they meant August 2010 ?????
I was more than willing to give them the benefit of the doubt with the long weekend and all. However, to simply leave the August 1 date on the website is a little strange.

Why would you give them the benefit of the doubt....
I'm sure they knew Aug 1st was the long weekend, there mistake was that they dated it they should of just put the Month down, but they wouldn't get that right either

Re: Generals new web site
Beats, on its own, this is not a big deal, but it is just another example of an organization that has a trend of making commitments and not always following through on them. They need to learn to under-commit and over-deliver and not vice versa - its not that hard to do and will leave a much better impression on people as over time, small issues add up.

In the who gives a damn category, I can't think of anything that I could care less about.
I love they way the word professional gets thrown around. The last time I checked the Oshawa Generals were an amateur team.
