Play off race - 5 weeks left
I am sure most of you believe we are a lock for the play offs - I think we are in a dog fight
We do control our own destiny but without a power play and consistant goaltending more games like last w/end will be in store
In the conference - Barrie -Ottawa-Missy are top 3 - the battle for 4th - 8th - I think Kingston and Brampton will battle for 4th
Brampton just got good news - Cody Hodgson will be back this week end
That leaves Gens - Sudbury - Petes to battle for 6th - 7th - 8th hopefully Niagara doesn't go on a run
Our schedule is tough starting this Friday in Kitcnener then in Petes then home next afternoon vs Barrie
We have 12 games in the month of Feb - Kitchener -2 - Barrie - 3 - Missy - 2 = 7 games
Possible games in must win - in Niagara - in Petes- home games vs - Brampton - -Bulls - Kingston = 5 games
To finish the season with 6 games in 8 days In Kingston then home vs Kingston then final game vs Petes
Then we finish on the road last 3 in Bulls - Ottawa THEN FINAL GAME OF THE YEAR IN PETES - Sat Mar 13
You just might want to get tickets now for that game - it could just decide the season - who knows
Oh I know we upset Windsor - Missy played tough vs London - that was with Calvin

Re: Play off race - 5 weeks left
i think that whether we are in a dog fight or not depends on Alain Berger.... if he's back before march 1st I think we are a lock for the playoffs
I realize one player is not the team, but the added scoring threat especially in the final 3 games of the season, would really help
From there we need to play .400 hockey i think minimum, and make sure we win the Niagara game on top of that
this should be do able

Re: Play off race - 5 weeks left
Just a break down of weeks left
Week 1 (Kitchener, Peterborough, Barrie)
2 points is a real possibility with injuries
Week 2 (Niagara, Missiauga, Brampton)
2 points is easy with 3 struggling teams
Week 3 (Barrie, Belleville, Kitchener)
2 points is shoud be easy
Week 4 (Kingston, Barrie, Missisauga)
2 points is doable
Week 5 (Kingston, Kingston, Peterborough)
2 points should be easy
Week 6 (Belleville, Ottawa, Peterborough)
2 points should be easy
2 points a week will get the Gens 59 points (enough for a spot 2 of the last 3 years)
if the gens can pick up 1 win a weekend as well as 1 or 2 overtime loss's this thing is in the bag

Week 2 will be tough - Niagara is playing well at home - so this is a must win 4 pointer if you want to stay ahead of them
Brampton - all close games this year - Cody Hodgson back - Missy is struggling - I missed that
Week 3 Bulls - must win
Week 4 & 5 - Kingston 3 times must win 2 of 3
Belleville - Ottawa finish in Petes barn NEED 3 PTS

Missy is stuggling as of late compared to earlier in the year, thats my take on it, Hogson hasn't played for a year, not worried about him, maybe i'm underestimating him,but i think it will take more thena week for him to get back to speed, if we lose to Niagara I think we can find away to get points from the other 2.

Re - Missy beat Barrie last night
Re - Hodgson first game back
1st star sets up the winner and insurance goal - 4-2 win over Erie
All of a sudden we are tied for 7th or 8th - 5 points up on Niagara
That game in Niagara next week sure looks BIG

Re: Play off race - 5 weeks left
With 13 Gens games left in the regular season, if the Gens are playoff bound, I'm really hoping for 7th!
It could be quite a battle for 7th since 8th or 6th don't seem like very pleasant options.
When the Gens had that December run of 7 wins in a row or something, I really thought there was no reason why they couldn't take the division and grab the 2nd seed in the conference that went with it.
Then it became more of, well, home ice in the first round is 4th and that's still do-able.
Who knows what the end result will be now. Hopefully something decent!

Re: Play off race - 5 weeks left
The only team besides ourselves keeping our playoff hopes alive is the sinking Sudbury Wolves. Peterborough will not fall behind us. Brampton and Niagara are playing much better and will make the playoffs. At least the Wolves got smacked around by London today.

Re: Play off race - 5 weeks left
if we are aiming for 8th, 9th is better
saves us all 32$ a seat and the embarassment of 4 and out
also helps out with a better draft pick, i for a time hoped we'd sit 5th or 7th and have a chance, but ottawa is a death wish, and 5th is no longer do able
thinking this losing streak continuing is for the best

Re: Play off race - 5 weeks left
I have always thought the focus should be on the upcoming draft(s) providing the 'proper' GM and coach was in place. It sure is long time to build, develop, and win in the 'Shaw. If everything is 'finally' done right it won't be long before the Mem Cup will be in town!

Re: Play off race - 5 weeks left
We can only get 9th if Sudbury wins - seeing they just lost to Sarnia - doubtful
Maybe it will be Sudbury and Oshawa tied
It looks to me that this Friday vs Bulls - win - they have a chance
Right now - 8 in a row - Barrie makes 9 - lose Friday 10
who knows when it will end
Miss the playoffs - you could draft 3rd or 4th - make the playoffs you draft 5th - no big deal
last year we draft Jenner - next Petes took Peumpel - both good players - where you draft dictates your choice but
we need BIG FAST FORWARDS - who can score now

pretty sure the team from the in 9th from our conference will get the 3rd pick this year, just from comparing the 2 9th place teams

Re: Play off race - 5 weeks left
Now if we did finish 8th we would get the 5th pick - but as of today
Sarnia picks 1 then Belleville at 2
3rd pick - 1 of Niagara - Gens - Wolves
4th pick is the 4th team that missed the playoffs in the west
then by points - No matter where we pick - it's who we pick
We have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds- it would be great to move
a 3rd plus a player or 3 for a proven goalie as you can only dress
4 - 16 yr olds

Re: Play off race - 5 weeks left
We are now tied with Sudbury for 9th place and Sudbury has a game in hand. The Gens destiny lies in their own hands escpecially with many games against teams in our own division. Make it or break it time for the Gens.

In the NHL yes but in the OHL there would be a single-game playoff tiebreaker to decide 8th place, they don't decide who's in and out of the playoffs using wins/losses if there is a tie in points. Total wins would however decide who gets to play at home so if the season ended today, that single-game would be in hostile territory.
They really need to beat Belleville this weekend, if at the very least to regain their confidence. Unless of course you are a member of Tank Nation and want the higher draft pick.

LOL! Hell no, I'll take the playoffs instead. Best case scenerio is a 7th place finish and a chance at a first round upset of Ottawa.
Barrie or Mississauga - forget about it!

6 big games left on the sched. 2 at home 4 on the road. A mini winning streak of at least 3 wins (.500) is needed in order to grab the last spot and a shot at the brass ring! Is it too much to hope for?
