You can still draft 2 as you don't name your 2 imports for months
from now
BUT AT 68 pick - it's a gamble
But getting Jensen is a steal as many thiught the Petes would get him - top 6 forward for sure

If we pass or trade the 2nd pick Berger is definatly coming back but if we don't, Berger is either coming back or the Gen's don't know for sure his status yet.

Re: IMPORT DRAFT - WE DRAFT - 8TH OVERALL - 68 TH
ya they must of done so shortly after i posted, cause they were listed as still having a pick at that point. Much more fair if Berger is coming back, the drafted kid would have no chance.

Re: IMPORT DRAFT - WE DRAFT - 8TH OVERALL - 68 TH
Word out of Petes Borough is that Petes' fans were hoping to get Jensen since his dad played there. Looks like a good pick! Not many "Danish" hockey players have ever been in the OHL, if any!

Re: IMPORT DRAFT - WE DRAFT - 8TH OVERALL - 68 TH
I got this from a post on HFBoards
Drafted Danes:
Heinz Ehlers, 1984, NYR, 188
Søren True, 1986, NYR, 240
Jesper Duus, 1987, EDM, 240
Kim Staal, 1996, MTL, 96
Frans Nielsen, 2002, NYI, 87
Peter Regin, 2004, OTT, 87
Jannik Hansen, 2004, VAN, 287
Morten Madsen, 2005, MIN, 122
Kirill Starkov, 2005, CBS, 189

From everything I've read about this kid it was a great pick.............

The above are Danes who were in the NHL but not probably in the OHL. I can't recall anyof them in the OHL.

Re: IMPORT DRAFT - WE DRAFT - 8TH OVERALL - 68 TH
So to answer my question about imports. This is how I had believed it to work.
2 Import Players, no saving rights to a 3rd import, if you draft more then 2 imports u need to give up the rights to one or more of ur imports.
Nicklas Jensen will join Alain Berger on next year's club

OSHAWA -- The Oshawa Generals ended up with just one player, and not two as they had been anticipating, from Tuesday's Canadian Hockey League import draft.
After further review of the rules, coach and general manager Chris DePiero learned that he would not be able to make a pick in the second round of the draft and "park" that player for a year.
He had been hoping to use returning overager Alain Berger, of Switzerland, and Denmark's Nicklas Jensen, drafted with the eighth overall pick Tuesday, as his two imports this year, and hold the rights to the second pick for next year.
As it turns out, a team is allowed to have only two imports protected at any one time.
In Jensen, the Generals are getting a six-foot-two left winger who is projected as a possible top-10 pick in next year's National Hockey League draft, according to DePiero.
"Nicklas is a big skilled forward with tremendous offensive upside," he said in a team press release. "He plays the game hard and will join a group of very good young forwards here in Oshawa."
Jensen had 12 goals and 26 points with the Herning Blue Fox in Denmark's AL-Banking League last season. He added six goals and 10 points in 10 playoff games.
His father, Dan, played with the Peterborough Petes and then professionally in Denmark, where he settled.
"It will improve my chances in the NHL draft to play in one of the Canadian junior leagues, as NHL clubs follow closely," Jensen is quoted in the press release prior to the draft. "My family on my father's side live in Toronto, so I hope I can come to a club in the area."
The Generals also dealt the rights to defenceman Julian Melchiori to the Kitchener Rangers on Tuesday for a conditional fifth round draft pick in 2013.
Melchiori was drafted in 2007 by the Generals in the 14th round, but played with the Newmarket Hurricanes after committing to a U.S. college scholarship. He was selected in the third round of Saturday's NHL draft by the Atlanta Thrashers.
Melchiori is cousins with Sean Murphy, a former assistant coach with the Generals who's now a scout with Kitchener.
On Monday, goalie Philipp Grubauer, rumoured by yahoosports.com to be coming to Oshawa, ended up in Kingston after being traded by the Memorial Cup champion Windsor Spitfires.
In return, Windsor acquired Nick Czinder, A.J. Jarosz, a second round draft pick and a conditional seventh round pick in 2011. The teams also swapped import draft picks.

Jensen also grew up playing for the King City Dukes Jr.B. team with Adam Graves - current part owner of the Oshawa Generals.
