I dont have anything against the kids winning, in fact its great just pointing out that they pull out more stops for those who dont give them a thousand dollars a year

Re: Majors @ Gens Tuesday Nov 1st 11 a.m.
When we first read about the 11am school game we were not thrilled. However, after going to the game we really enjoyed it. (despite the loss and bad reffing). There was a good atmosphere in the building. It was great to hear the students cheering loudly for our boys. We'd expected lots of screaming not cheering. What a change it made to hear lots of loud GO GENS GO. You'd have thought there were 20,000 of them. I thought the kids in the sections beside us were very well behaved. Hope some of these kids can talk their parents to bringing them to the games or go on to be future General fans.
I'd love to see more schools participate too. Being the first time, this was a trial run. Like anything in life, I hope the Gens look in detail at what was good about this game and what didn't work and how this can be made as successful as Ottawa's (with the obvious limitation that you can't get 9000 into the GMC). I'm sure next year's will be better and the following year will be even better than that.
I unfortunately can't attend this game but kids are the best fans in the building for crowd noise. Yes, sometimes they scream obnoxiously at a prompted "Get loud!" on the video board but there are plenty of "Go Gens Go" and "Let's Go Generals" from kids at several games where I wish the adults would join them.
Maybe pick a team we can get an easy win against too.

Not the petes lol. The only way the game will suceed like in ottawa will be if sth can opt out. You could have room for alot more schools and alot less empty seats

I think if they want more schools to go they should lower the ticket price. My school did not participate because we felt $20 was a lot to ask the kids to pay for the ticket and lunch voucher. We didn't even have to bus them there, so schools needing to bus their kids would have to charge even more. I'm a teacher and talking to principals and teachers from other schools they also felt the price was too high. If they want the maximum number of schools to go, they should offer really cheap seats. I think they could fill the rink if they were to lower the price.
I'm glad people enjoyed it, but as a sth I was upset I had to miss the game for work. I wish we could opt out of the game and get something other than a ticket for another game. Getting free tickets for a game you are already going to isn't helpful if you don't have people who could use them. How about a coupon for the concession stands instead or a playoff ticket?
Just a thought.

Ottawa's was $10 for comparison although most things with the 67s are cheaper because they can have a large building with 9000-10000 in the stands.

$10 is a pretty good price, and do you know if that included a food voucher and a bus ride to the game? Also btw, my last chance to watch the Gens in Ottawa was 2 seasons ago (not counting this season) and I thought everything, aside from ticket prices, was more expensive than the GMC, just my opinion

I will concede that the kids bring a great attitude for cheering at the game... but that is where it ends for me.
They are not interested in the game and the were so bored by the third period. I think one kid went to the bathroom 4 times in the third....just so he didn't have to sit there anymore.
I will admit the kids were well behaved in my area as well. I was hit in the head about 10 times by the blow up things they gave the kids, but they all apologized.

LOL better wear a helmet to next years game! And your comment about not being interested is exactly what i posted way back originally on this topic. The kids will just be happy to be out of the classroom.

http://www.ottawa67s.com/page/school-day-game
Bus transportation included, no mention of food. The 67s also did a solid job with curriculum links with a program that was handed out to the kids that features information on nutrition, daily physical activity and character education. As a teacher, I'm really impressed with that. I didn't think any team would actually be attempting curriculum links with this game - that's a big selling point in convincing a teacher to take a class on a trip. They really did their homework on this one. Not only do you get an enjoyable afternoon out with the students but you also have a resource that you can use for a lesson the following day.
Let's also keep in mind though that Ottawa is a city of a million people with far more schools than Durham Region. Even if we were to say that the Gens could draw fans from as far as Ajax or Port Perry, that's a way more expensive bus ride than the suburbs of Ottawa to the Civic Centre. Aside from distance, the 905 is really underserved in terms of number of schools. Urban centres like Ottawa or Toronto have tons of small schools whereas the 905 has just a few schools that tend to be larger. That makes it harder to sell the schoolday game no matter what the price is.
As for the Ottawa Civic Centre, the concessions are super-expensive, basically NHL prices. I should've been specific and said tickets were cheaper. They also have a greater variety of packages like a Friday night package, a family weekend afternoon 12-game package, etc. They also offered me a student price on season tickets as a 22-year old graduate student. There are very few teams that have university student prices. The only other one I know is the Quebec Remparts and they have an NHL-size rink. I paid $6 a game in Quebec City in 2002-03 and that wasn't even season tickets, that was the individual game price!
I'll throw in my plug here, if anybody's ever in Quebec City, it's one of the best places in Canada to watch junior hockey, if not, it's THE BEST. I still can't believe I saw the 2003 Memorial Cup for $100.
