Gen's Pick's
The Gens with there 1st pick I think went off the board with RC Cole Cassels and if the last name rings a bell he is the son of Andrew Cassels ex NHL and OHL

Re: Gen's Pick's
They really went off the board. Any lists that I saw (there may be others), had Cassels rated in the mid 40s. That would make him a third round pick according to the scouts. The Gens scouts must see something that the rest don't.

Re: Gen's Pick's
Evan DeHaan gone to Sudbury. The Gens must have an American scout with a strong voice with Petaccio last year and Cassels this year. The Gens like to go off the board and venture there periodically! If Cassels is anything like his Dad, he will be a smooth skating, playmaking centre. The Petes are re-building nicely!

Re: Gen's Pick's
Used to be 45-50 years ago when I lived in Lindsay, but been a Gens fan since 1968 when I moved here! Just keeping track of our worst enemy and how much of a threat they will be in years to come. The 'Petes comment" was just an aside.

Re: Gen's Pick's
Kind of surprised the Gens didn't go after Daniel Nikandrov in the 3rd or4th round . I've read some good things about him. No 'flyers' taken yet on the "big name" Americans ranked in the top 50. Maybe in the later rounds, like McDowell was?

I hope the Gens scouts know what they are doing Cassels was ranked 44th!
This wouldn't be the 1st time Gens scouts have gone way off the board and done this over the years.

Re: Gen's Pick's
And another "American" in the 10th round! Question? How do you 'scout' John Urbanic who played 13 games, had 3 goals and 3 assists along with 2 minutes in penalties? Must really shine when he plays!

Re: Gen's Pick's
More random thoughts... when will the Gens select Matthew Hore, brother of Tyler Hore. He had good numbers!

Re: Gen's Pick's
All picks are gamble picks you don't know till they show up an impress
John Urbanic could of been injuryed and that's why he only played 13 games, there is not many spots opened @ the forward position and John Urbanic maybe a project for the following season.

Re: Gen's Pick's
According to the Gens website, Urbanic had "an injury shortened season". My question was that 6 points are not much production in 13 games. That would project to 30 points in a 65 game season. Not much, on the surface, to get excited about.

Last and final pick- Austin Washkurak, a diminutive goalie from Missy. Any relation to Joe, the Gennies advance scout?

A little articale on Ken Appleby in the North Bay Nugget news paper:
The six-foot-four Appleby posted a 2.78 goals-against average with the Trappers last season, fourth in the Great North Midget League.
"I was actually hoping to go to Oshawa," said Appleby, who had been in contact with a few OHL clubs prior to Saturday's online draft. "I was surprised I went that early. I wasn't expecting to go in the second round."
In addition to his play with the Trappers, Appleby also turned some heads by winning both starts at the OHL Cup midget showcase in March playing for the NOHA Wolves. Last month, he also earned an invitation to Team Ontario's Under-17 main camp this summer.
"I think it's a credit to the coaching staff and working with (goalie coach) Todd Robillard helped a lot with improving some of my technical abilities," said Appleby, who will continue working on developing his agility and quickness.

Re: Gen's Pick's
Wishful thinking..if Cole Cassels is anthing like his dad, we'll be thrilled: 48 goals and 103 assists for 151 total points one year for the 67's. Wow!
