How far can this current GENS team go
Well in my opinion of watching junior hockey and the Gens since 1966
This team is the most talented group since the Marc Savard team that last won the OHL title and that team upset by a favoured Ottawa
team - This team has so much potential from the Head coach down BUT at times it leaves you wanting for more and at times lacks
killer instinct - the hard part will be to finish the next 5 games with discipline - we still have a chance at 1 st in our conference
but most likely will be seeded 3 rd and play Niagara seeded 6 th as of today.

I agree with you re: the killer instinct. This team needs that for the playoffs for sure. I am surprised a DJ Smith team would not have this based on him as a player. We have some guys on the team that will be Big Time players come playoffs namely Jenner and Laughton. But I am interested to see what a guy like Dundas brings as long as he stays out of the box I think he could be very valuable come playoff time with his agitation style. My worries are at times this team has defensive brain farts, they fail to finish (even with 50 shots) and Altshuler just doesn't seam to steal games like you may need from time to time in the playoffs.
Well should be a lot more fun than last year and I hope they can have the killer instinct against Niagara and have a long run.

Re: How far can this current GENS team go
Im just curious where you rate the 2007-2008 team that lost to the bulls in the conference final. This Team should be able to knock off the icedogs in the first round. If altshuller plays well and doesnt have the odd brain fart and allow a few weak goals we should be able to beat the colts in the second round and have an epic battle with the bulls.Gens Camper wrote:Well in my opinion of watching junior hockey and the Gens since 1966

Re: How far can this current GENS team go
Well taking a look at the standings this morning, I think the only positions that may change is the 4/5 with Brampton and Sudbury. The Gens have clinched at least 3rd place in the conference. With Mathers being the idiot he is, picking up a four game suspension, I don’t believe the Petes can catch Missy or Kingston. Missy has been so bad lately and have a very tough schedule (for them), that I see Missy ending eighth. So, what we have is…
Bulls versus Missy … total mismatch, will be over in 4
Barrie versus Kingston … I will give Kingston a game, Barrie in 5
Gens versus IceDogs … again. Gens will win this in five
Brampton and Sudbury will be a great series, but I think that Sudbury’s aggressiveness will prevail for the win.
Round two will see
Bulls and Wolves … Bulls in six
Colts and Gens … Gens in six
Conference Finals then becomes Bulls and Gens. I believe the Gens will pull it off. They have more than enough scoring power, a defence that when on their game can be one of the best around and a Goalie in Altshuller that wants nothing more than to beat the Belleville Bulls. Daniel has played great this year logging a lot of minutes. I believe he will be ready for this and the ride will be a long one.
Should Altshuller get sick or anything, all bets are off. Sorry Appleby, but not this year.
What are everyone else’s thoughts? Agree/Disagree? What Up

Re: How far can this current GENS team go
I have thought all along we can be in the eastern final and with solid goaltending could go for a league championship. I like that gmc118 is on board.😜

Re: How far can this current GENS team go
Sounds good to me........
I dont know about anyone else but I dont want to play niagara again! There is a part of me that wants the boys to beat them (and in their own arena), but there is a part of me that is scared they will lose again. Playoffs are a whole new season. I'd like to hope that the vets like boone, laughton, sabby, colin etc have a lot of fire in their belly and will do whatever it takes to beat them.
Anyone taken a look at the calender to see what our first round games might look like? I'm thinking start here on the Friday night and play down there on either the Sat or Sun.

Gens team
This team is more balanced throughout the lineup - 2 stong lines - The Tavares years were - Tavares-McLean - DelZotto every other shift
and in my opinion were totally worn out plus the Bulls goaltending with Murphy in net was the difference.
As far as matchups the only team that can beat us is the GENS - We have not seen our full team play a solid 60 minute game very often.
The difference in the playoffs is goaltending - special teams and discipline - as in my opinion any one of Barrie ,Bulls and GENS could represent the east in the final - which 1 wants it most - all have GREAT goaltenders and only 1 will survive - GO GENS GO
The playoff format is changed this year the first 2 games are in Oshawa - then 2 on the road then alternate
The Wolves have a habit of upsets - Ottawa a couple of years ago - let's hope

Re: How far can this current GENS team go
well if this is the case then i would predict we play something close to this
Fri mar 22th - home
Sun Mar 24- home
Tues Mar 26- Niagara
Wed Mar 27 or Thurs Nar 28 - Niagara
Fri Mar 29- Home
Sat Mar 30 - Niagara (unless the push this to Easter Sunday)

On a positive, if everything goes according to plan, I wont have to visit the jack this year for playoffs:)

Re: How far can this current GENS team go
I am super duper jacked for the playoffs to begin too, I am not sure who i would want to play but i think im leaning towards the icedogs just because it would be nice to putem out.
I think this team this year can go really really far as long as the goaltending stands tall and holds up through a tuff playoff schedule.
It was nice to see the bulls lose last night to the last place 67's,i wonder if the gens can pull it off and win the east, all we can do is wait and see..?
GO GENS GO!!!!!!!!
COUNTDOWN TO PLAYOFFS BEGINS!!!!!!!!!!

Re: How far can this current GENS team go
Any night is any team's win. Doesn't matter where you are in the standings. Heck two years ago sudbury i believe was like 8th seed and knocked Ottawa out in 4 games in the first round.
I wouldn't get to excited over that Bulls loss, I can't see them tanking the rest of the way through the season and the Generals pulling ahead. I'm okay with staying in 3. I think if the boys get by Niagara then I think they can handle Barrie not a problem. Then it's it just a nice friendly neighbourhood game up of pick up againist the Bulls for the East title:)
There's going to be two road blocks that the Generals will have to over come against the Dogs 1) themselves....they can't play 40 mins and ride it out 20. Has to be a solid effort from EVERYONE from the time the puck drops to the final buzzer goes. 2) History- They have to go in their knowing they can win and not let what has happened the last 2 seasons play on their minds and mess with their game. Its going to be an even tougher arena to play in , if you have ever been to the Jack you know what Dogs fans are like. For them to try and put us our for a 3rd year in a row, I can't even believe how nasty they will be. Now there are few nices fans, dont get me wrong. But I'd rather go to watch a game at the Yardman then the Jack!
Whatever the outcome of this season, I have to say Im proud at the way this team has performed. Last year was suppose to be "THE" year. However due to a team that seem to made of individualist and not team players it tanked. This years team imo was not supose to be a top contender, but it turns out they have been. Kudos to DJ and his staff, as well as, the boys themselves. The vets really turned themselves around this season.
