Re: The next moves are.....
But in Oshawa's situation currently I wouldn't. The Memorial Cup is hosted by the OHL and IF London wins the West we all know the winner of the East will get an invite. That's all you need. Once you're in the tournament you have a one in four shot at winning. The way the Eastern Conference looks this year I would roll the dice if I was the Generals organization. Hosting is great yes... but actually playing your way into the tournament is better and Oshawa has a great shot to do that this year. IF the Memorial Cup was in the Q or the WHL we may be having a different conversation but that's not the case.archer_gens wrote:Windsor did it, traded assets, they one cups.
Not saying that I'm all for that strategy, the boys are playing great, but it has happened before.
Even from a revenue stand point for the hockey team. If they go to the OHL Final that's big $$$. If a team has a shot to go that deep they'll take it. Oshawa has that shot.

Yeah your right in saying Great coaching, great playing, But too add a piece or two like you said you will have to give something up. I still think @ the end Kingston and Barrie will be the teams to beat,But I do like the way we are playing and I think that has alot to do with the coaching.StingRay5 wrote:Great coaching, great playing, the Team is way over expectations! I won't be dissappointed either way sell and going for it in 3yrs or buying and going for it this year.

Re: The next moves are.....
Although I was in favour of selling and going for it next year or the following, I would have no problem adding 2 or 3 players as suggested above. I just don't think the Gens have the trade pieces ( no seconds in the next two years). Kingston, Erie and Peterborough have multiple 2nds and 3rds in the next two years to outbid us. If we go for it, Faksa would be a good, if expensive, addition as he is an import and not many teams have room for one.

Re: The next moves are.....
Everyone is saying we need 2nd's and where going to lose guys. Look at the majority of the OHL trades this season, not many 2nd's where moved. Yes, if we want Gaunce or Rychel or a top guy like that where gonna need to move 2nd's, 3rd's and young up an comers. But if we want guys that are less higher profiled players, 4th's, 5th's 6th's, future 2nd and 3rd's a few years away will still be enough.
I truly believe us having an import and OA spot really helps, lots of top teams already have those spots filled. A guy like Scott Simmonds from Belleville for example, loads of playoff and overall OHL experience, solid player, not a big point producer but.. a good 3rd line player, that will help this team. Team depth is crucial come playoff time, you cant just role 5 or 6 forwards for a possible 28 games in 35-40 nights.
Guys I honestly believe would cost at the most 3rd's or less high end young guys (Hore, McDade as examples of what I mean).
Belleville - Jake Worrad (D), Scott Simmonds (LW/RW), Garrett Hoey (C)
Kitchener - Matia Marcantuoni (LW), Ben Thomson (LW), Max Iafrate (D), Ben Fanelli (D), Paxton Leroux (F/D)
Niagara - Luke Mercer (D), Jesse Graham (D)
Ottawa - Ryan Van Stralen (LW)
Owen Sound - Holden Cook (RW), Kurtis Gabriel (RW), Kurtis MacDermid (D)
Plymouth - Zach Lorentz (LW), Mitch Jones (D)
Sarnia - Nick Latta (C), Josh Chapman (D), Jimmy McDowell (D)

Re: The next moves are.....
I have no difficulty with adding pieces but I would be very concerned trading top players for the future when the Gens are where they are now.
I agree the OA and import spot allow some flexibility which might allow some useful pieces to be added without a great cost.
Also the Tyler Biggs situation is an interesting one. That would add a useful piece at no cost. I am sure Twohey is in contact about him and Lessio so there may be something up his sleeve we don't know about.
That said a lot can happen between now and the trade deadline to change the landscape. In the meantime lets hope the Gens continue to roll.

The least well kept secret in eastern Ontario is that the 2017 Memorial Cup is Ottawa's to lose.
