It's still early but....
I don't want I jinx the guys by saying this. But I've been going to games for 17 years now and don't think Ive ever seen us close to having what we have now. #1 penalty kill #2 power play (behind Erie by .3%) #1 in the east. Appleby has the best GAA in the league
It's amazing what a good coaching staff can do with 4 lines that all work hard

Not much to add. It's been fun going to games. The boys are really gelling together. Like to see Pu get in there and see what he can bring.

Re: It's still early but....
Thought it would be neat to compare some of the stats between our first 15 games this year, and where we were 15 games into last season. The stats include our win in Belleville on Saturday, but not the SO win tonight.
Record
Last year: 11 wins, 3 losses, 0 OT losses, 1 SO loss 23 points
This year: 12 wins, 2 losses, 1 OT loss, 0 SO losses 25 points
Goals For
Last year: 52 (4th in the conference, 11th in the league)
This year: 66 (1st in the conference, 3rd in the league)
Goals Against
Last year: 42 (1st in the conference, 3rd in the league)
This year: 37 (1st in the conference, 1st in the league)
PP
Last year: 25.3% 25 goals on 83 chances (2nd in the conference, 5th in the league)
This year: 31.2% 20 goals on 64 chances (1st in the conference, 1st in the league)
PK
Last year: 84.4% 12 goals allowed on 77 chances (1st in the conference, 4th in the league)
This year: 88.9% 9 goals allowed on 81 chances (1st in the conference, 1st in the league)
Way to go Gens!

Re: It's still early but....
Thanks for the very interesting stats, generalsfan! Who would have thought that Appleby would step up this year, the way he has, with so little playing time last year. I think that we are now seeing what a difference a good coach can make to a team's performance. This is the second consecutive year that we have a team that can contend. We've waited a long time for this!

Re: It's still early but....
Make that the #1 PP in the league as well after 15 games.
When I made the post above on Sunday (Gens PP 2nd in the league), I figured Erie was still going to have the #1 PP after their 15th game tonight, but the #1 PP 15 games into the season belongs to us as the only PP operating above 30% efficiency.

Re: It's still early but....
This season compared to last season 20 games in.
Record
Last year: 15 wins, 4 losses, 0 OT losses, 1 SO loss 31 points
This year: 17 wins, 2 losses, 1 OT loss, 0 SO losses 35 points
Goals For
Last year: 75 (2nd in the conference, 7th in the league)
This year: 91 (1st in the conference, 3rd in the league)
Goals Against
Last year: 53 (1st in the conference, 3rd in the league)
This year: 47 (1st in the conference, 1st in the league)
Gens are the only team to have their GA in the 40’s after 20 games. 3 teams have their GA in the 50’s: North Bay, Kingston, Erie. The other 16 teams are 60+. Over half of the league is 70+.
Overall PP
Last year: 28.4% 31 goals on 109 chances (1st in the conference, 2nd in the league)
This year: 31.7% 26 goals on 82 chances (1st in the conference, 1st in the league)
Interesting that last season, we had 27 more PP chances in the first 20 games. "We're not getting the calls!" *flips table over* haha
Given that our PP % is more efficient this season, another 27 opportunities would have been nice!
Overall PK
Last year: 84.2% 15 goals allowed on 95 chances (1st in the conference, 4th in the league)
This year: 88.5% 12 goals allowed on 104 chances (1st in the conference, 1st in the league)

Last year: 130 (2nd in the conference, 8th in the league)
