Memorial Cup
Let's get talking about the tournament ahead. First off huge congrats to gens players, staff and ownership.
The job isn't done yet. I have a few things that need to be answered:
1. Are tickets sold out for championship weekend? Is anyone looking to drive up and stay for that weekend?
2. I heard a rumour that Petschenig is doing everything he can to come back. I was told it will be up to team doctors as week moves on. He broke his arm did he not?? Any updates??
3. After watching the game tonight (quebec vs Kelowna) I thought it was wide open. Lots of scoring chances both ways, lack of defense. I also noticed that this was no where near as physical as ohl playoffs.
4. What are your predictions???
I say Gens win over quebec in finals 3-2 in double ot

Re: Memorial Cup
Can't wait to get down there. I'm heading for semis and finals. I really think we can win this. Quebec strength is fucale. Kelowna has two lines and good d but to me goalie didn't look awesome. Really excited to watch the gens today. I think it's been almost a month for Will since he broke his arm. Can they play with a cast? Not sure if it would be healed yet.
Let's go Generals!

Re: Memorial Cup
Don't take my word for it, but people around the rink are saying tickets are available, so I'm going to guess there are, but again I can't give a concrete answer for the championship weekend, but round robin games yes.
Petschenig broke his arm like you said, it's very unlikely he plays, the arm just won't be strong enough. But you never know miracles happen, an Will is the type of player who's willing to play through the pain.. but don't count on seeing him.
The Remparts used there speed to overwhelm the Rockets. Kelowna likes to play with a physical element when there on, but just where not able to get hits on the speedy Remparts. Fucale outplayed Whistle in goal.. Whistle wasn't bad but he wasn't good either. The depth of the Remparts really had an effect on the game as there attack came in waves. Kelowna is lacking depth right now due to some injuries. The style the Generals play will be able to neutralize the speedy skilled teams, and against Kelowna their depth and size will likely be enough. I'm more impressed with Quebec after last nights game, but I still believe the top two teams are Oshawa and Kelowna.

Re: Memorial Cup
Lots of tickets for sure. Only 9000-10000 sold and that arena holds 16,000. So generals fans if you are thinking about it, go for it and support the boys. I'm banking on them being in at least semis if not finals .

Re: Memorial Cup
I believe the team we have is capable of beating any of the teams currently in the tournament.
For many watching, it appears we lack star power. We don't have the "big" name. That's OK with me. The team contributions will win. Talent will shine...team D will be successful. I think that is our success for this whole season.
Yesterdays game we looked so strong to start off. A fluke goal, off a skate...and we lost composure for less than 2 minutes and we are back to a tied game. DJ will look at that...make the corrections and it won't happen again. Late period collapses are not going to be a trend for us . I feel it in my gut this year. We have the right tools to win. Great goalie, making saves at the most important times, a committed 5 man defense system, scoring ability and coaching. And DJ has this team in the right mind set. All equals Oshawa getting the opportunity to win another memorial cup.
If you can't tell..I am a bit of a homer..and I am so excited for these kids, invested with DJ and they are finally seeing the fruit of the hard work and philosophy. I listened to a DJ interview and he says...that is the hardest part. Getting teenagers to buy into low scoring, defensive minded play over being a superstar scorer. The kids want the contract and glory....
I see a memorial cup coming our way!

Re: Memorial Cup
Possibly one to go. If Kelowna loses to Rimouski tomorrow and is 0-2, would the Gens hold the tiebreaker against both Quebec and Rimouski because of the two wins? That third round-robin game may not matter as they could have the spot in the final clinched. Rest Appleby?

Re: Memorial Cup
Yes, that's what I think, hockeybeats. Mathematically, I think the Gens could find themselves in the final as early as Monday night.
Supposing Rimouski wins Monday, Kelowna goes to 0-2 and isn't a factor for 1st. The best either team from the Q can be now is 2-1. Even if the Gens lost Tuesday and fell to 2-1 themselves, they would still get the nod over either team from the Q for having beaten each of them head to head in the round-robin. I think a Kelowna loss on Monday sends the Gens straight through to the final automatically.

Some people have bills to pay, family to support, that doesn't mean that we don't support the Gens, I've been along time season ticket holder and supports this team bad years and good years, enjoy yourself @ the game but don't say Get off the fence and support the boys, there is a lot of us that do but can't justify the cost. and to the Gen's fans that aren't making there way to Quebec lets get to Buffalo Wild Wings in Oshawa on Sunday as they have been showing the game.

Re: Memorial Cup
Steamed didn't mean it that way. Of course there is a cost factor involved. I don't think I said you don't support your team if you don't go. Being on the fence for people I've talked to is they weren't sure if they were making it to Friday or not. Now we know they are. So if I have to clarify I'm talking to those fans that either have the time and or funds to go but weren't sure about the Generals being there in the semis or finals. I get there is a time/cost factor here. Never said anyone is less a fan if they don't go.

I will most likely drive to Quebec on Saturday and stay over if they are in on Sunday. Great wins this weekend. Anybody notice how dirty the Quebecers play?

Re: Memorial Cup
Things are getting heated, verbal jabbing
After hearing D.J. Smith and Philippe Boucher's verbal war today, I am praying to the Memorial Cup gods for a Generals-Remparts rematch
Remparts coach Philippe Boucher on the Oshawa Generals: "Their bus driver's massive, too. Everybody's big on that team."
Boucher accused Hunter Smith of faking a high-sticking call and indicated Oshawa's big guys were weak in the legs.
D.J. Smith responded by saying Quebec's little defencemen can't stop Michael (Animal) McCarron and need to get stronger.
To which, Boucher said, "Have you seen our weight room? We're in there every day."

Re: Memorial Cup
2k2, i thought you were pretty clear. You worded it fine the first time. I am on the fence and am leaning on heading down either sat or sun morning. Its close to a once in a lifetime opportunity, although I did make it to Hull and Peterboro in 97 and 96.

Re: Memorial Cup
Well it's win and your in. Kelowna had no problems with Rismouski, I don't know if Kelowna were that good or Rismouski was that bad but tonight's game is going to be a good one when the Generals needed a win they play one of there best games and I think Appleby will have a great game as he was called out by DJ.

Re: Memorial Cup
I'm right there with you Steamed. Apps is going to have one of his better games tonight. Kelowna looked good but the Gens are going to grind them and take over in the third period (as usual).
Looking at cheap hotels. Is there any near the colisee ?

Re: Memorial Cup
If price is the deciding factor, the Laval University residences are available because the school year is over. Nowhere near the Colisée though. I stayed there during the 2003 Memorial Cup (and the 2002-03 school year). It was a 45-minute ride on public transit dropping you off a 5 to 10 minute walk from the rink. I'd imagine you can drive it in 20-25 minutes or so if you bring your car or rent one.
It's $53 a night for a single room and $69 a night for a double room. You don't get a private washroom, there's one on each floor. Clean tiny rooms, nothing fancy, very basic ... but very cheap! I paid $215 for the whole month of May at the time.

Re: Memorial Cup
I'm staying near the university and according to map is 14 minute drive to Colisee . Really what's 15-20 minutes when your going early before the game anyway. Really pumped to see our Gennies in a championship game again. Trifecta here as I watched clincher in north bay, Oshawa and now quebec

We are home team too so be wearing my Red Sunday. Who does everyone want to play? I wouldn't mind Kelowna again. That was an awesome game and fan support in arena might shift to the Generals.
