Yet another question for 'hockeybeats'. Have you any idea who created those amazing animated videos which are played during the intermissions?

I sure do, he sits right beside me at almost every game, his name is Nick Poulakis, a man of many talents. His website is below although he's re-doing it all so there isn't that much to see at the moment. I'll pass on your compliment.

Beats, pass along mine as well. I think the video quality we have had this year has been on the professional level and this individual has a great future ahead of him.

Those videos blow me away. I'm just glued to the screen when they are on. Nick will do well in life.

I really thought they had paid a service for those music videos and that other places must be using them. My teenage kids and wife really enjoy them. I am also glued to them when they are playing and am more annoyed when someone walks in front of me during those then during game play. But that really annoys me too.

we need to have a forum just for "questions for beats."

just before the teams came out for the 3rd period im sure it was "sometime around midnight" that you were playing.......this is one of the saddest tunes i've ever heard but the fact that you played it during a bad game caught me as less than coincidental........was this on purpose? i have to admit it made me laugh.

Question For Beats Empty Re: Question For Beats

Post by hockeybeats Fri Feb 20, 2009 6:53 pm

Actually, I had misunderstood about the animated videos because he does do other video editing and has done a bunch of videos for the Gens such as the intro video, the Bobby Orr video, etc. What he did do with those videos was edit them with small things like having the Gens logo appear when it shows up on the pre-game animation, etc. He did get them from somewhere else and that site Penalty Box mentions looks like that must be the place.

As for Sometime After Midnight, I thought I only had a few seconds because the players are supposed to come out with 2:00 on the clock and the previous song ended right around there so I wanted something instrumentalish but then they came out late so I played more of it than I wanted to.

Is anyone aware if the team or arena would need to get special permission to play certain songs during games? For example, the new Hockey Night in Canada theme.

What the name of the song played just before the shootout. I've heard it in many other arenas too.

It's a guitar riff I'm thinking about.

Nope. I'd know that one! LOL. It kinda sounds like a guitar version of dueling banjos.

What happened to the Generals Theme song? Gary Polanski wouldn't admit to writing it but told me only a few copies existed.
I haven't heard it this season.

Question For Beats Empty Re: Question For Beats

If the person who operates the video board sits near you, since they have to enter the out of town scores anyway, could they put a "2", "3", or "F" beside the scores to tell us what period the game is in or if the score is a final? It would avoid the confusion some people have of assuming every score is a final because there's no notation.

I can't think of what the guitar song would be. I think I remember playing Are you Ready by AC/DC ... I can't remember what else I played at the shootout.

Generator, do you mean Hey Hey Oshawa? Dan Clancy was very vocal about not distributing it at all. It was part of the Memorial Cup bid and hasn't been played since the bid was over so it hasn't been played in a long time. I'm not sure if I would want to bring it back, the odd person liked it but those who didn't were quite adamant in now wanting to hear it ever again.

I'll bring up the period numbers for the out of town scores, that sounds like it would be simple enough. I didn't even realize that they weren't there, I never paid attention. That would be really annoying to not know whether something is a final score or not.

Yes! I agree 100% with this. Most Sunday games are already finished when the gens start, but you'll get the odd game that has a late afternoon start, or another night game on Sportsnet.....but when there's a mid week game, they all start around the same time and it would be nice to see what period a game is in...or if it's a final.

Another note on this...I would love to see more frequent updates. Say once a period? Rather than just in the 3rd.
