NHL Camps set to open. Empty NHL Camps set to open.

Post by archer_gens Mon Sep 05, 2011 8:35 pm

Anyone know if these players were all invited to camp?

Jenner -> Columbus
Jensen -> Vancouver
Andreoff -> Kings
Thomas -> New York
Sullentrop -> Flyers
Lessio -> Pheonix

Did neither Daniel Maggio or Scott Valentine get invites this year? didn't read anything about them.

"Captain Boone Jenner leads the group as he takes off to Columbus, while Nicklas Jensen (Vancouver), Lucas Lessio (Phoenix), Colin Suellentrop (Philadelphia), Andy Andreoff (Los Angeles), Christian Thomas (New York Rangers) and Scott Valentine (Nashville) will also do their best to impress the bosses at their respective camps."

I thought Valentine was a Duck? Just wondering if his rights were traded.

Jenner (Games runs til Wednesday)
-1 Goal, 1 Assist, 0Penalties, +/- of 1, 2 Game played

Andreoff (Games run til Thursday)
-Games go Wednesday and Thursday

Lessio (Games run til Thursday)
-Games go Wednesday and Thursday

-0 Goals, 2 Assists, 0 Penatlies, +/- of 0, 2 Games Played

Some of the guys will make NHL or AHL Camps and not be back until later if at all.

Jensen writes.

The week went by so quickly and the tournament is already over. It feels like we just got into Vancouver and Penticton but this part of camp is now finished. I think we still have meetings with the coaches but that’s about it.

Everything has been really good, a lot of fun, and a lot of hard work. I’ve really enjoyed the week and my first NHL camp experience. I’ve never been part of a tournament like Young Stars and I only have good things to say about how good it is.

I’m not happy that we lost this last game but overall, I think the team played well together this week. We didn’t have a lot of time to get to know each other but I think we got very close quickly and were able to do really well together as a team. It was fun playing with the guys.

They haven’t told us yet who’s going to main camp but I’m really hoping I will. I think it’ll be great to get to go but it will be a lot of hard work, of course. Its been such a short time since I just got off the ice so I haven’t had too much time to think about it but there will be NHL stars at camp and if I go, I really look forward to getting to skate with them because I can learn so much from them. Obviously, Jannik will be there so I’ll have someone I can speak Danish to but I know most of the guys on the team so it will be great, I’m sure.

The best part of camp was definitely playing the games – that’s what I’m here for. All the players are so talented and so skilled that it was really nice to be part of that as well. I’m glad I got a chance to play with everyone and see the different players that were involved in Penticton.

Now moving forward, I’m just trying to improve on everything. I really want to improve on my defensive play because obviously, I’m an offensive guy – that’s my strength. I really want to focus on my defensive game too so I can become a more well-rounded player but I want to improve on everything that I can all the time.

Finally, I want to say thanks for all the support out here, it’s really been great writing for the website this week. I hope you liked reading it and that I did okay. Thank you again and I can’t wait to see everyone again.

As of right now all 7 Generals are still at NHL training camps, at least officially to my knowledge, all camp rosters should be available in the am, but it looks like 4 or more will stick for nhl camp.

According to an article I read on the LA Kings, all the rookies would be invited to the main camp. According to another article I read- they would send Andy to Manchester for some Ehibition Games there after the main camp.

Silly Question

Does Lessio need to be on our active roster (assigned back to us from the nhl) for his suspension to be served? Lucas is to serve a 2 game suspension at the start of the season. I'm under the understanding that the suspension runs whether he's with the Generals or not, but just want confirmation.

Well, Lessio and the rest of them are on our roster. They will be mentioned as scratches at the games until they return or move on from the Generals.

I know they are on the roster, I meant even if Lessio is not with the team, can he still be considered as having served his suspension. Say he is with the NHL the first two games of the OHL season, is he eligible to return for game 3 of the OHL season, or would he still need to sit out the two game suspension.

The answer is on the OHL site. He can return Sept 30....that is the Gens 3rd game of the season. So, doesn't matter about the NHL camp. By the way, he was drafted, not signed yet....he isn't a member of any team other than the Oshawa Generals. Just because you get drafted doesn't give you a contract...some never sign and get re-drafted, others never sign and go somewhere as a free agent. Lets hope Lessio signs and has a great NHL stint after winning us a mem cup.

It's actually sort of an unfair rule then in my opinion, any drafted player can basically take a cheap sot at the end of the season knowing they will be in nhl camp and it won't matter.

I could be wrong, but I think Lessio has to be an active member on the roster in order to serve his games. I would assume the suspension kicks when he returns to Oshawa. If that werent the case, why bother having the rule! The website says the september 30 because if Lucas was present that would infact be the day that he could return. The ohl i would assume doesnt look at the fact that he is at camp right now when posting things.

Thats for sure how it should be. Cause what if a player got 10 games, the nhl club could just keep him around on purpose as a favor to the player so they can stay in game shape.

Looks like Valentine will be sticking around Nashville for a bit longer
"Sticken around a bit longer. Not too sure what stands infront of me in regards to my future, but I'll try and knock it down"

With all these players doing so well at camps, particularly the OA's, the season could start to look a little grim. Hopefully those that do get sent down to the AHL, could be sent back late like James Delory a few years back.

As anyone heard anything about Christian Thomas? Last I head he had gotten hurt.
