It's looking more and more like a Gens vs 67's first round. Missy has beat niagara and ottawa recently and are playing pretty good hockey right now so overtaking them for 6th will be really tough. I think the gens can stay ahead of Belleville. Brampton woulda been our best first round option but what can ya do. GO GENNIES!!!!!!

Oshawa controls there own destiny. If they win there last 4 games they are guaranteed the 6th spot.

Re: GENS CLINCH PLAYOFF SPOT!!!!
Good point KHE. Gens have a couple of good motivators for their 4 games remaining. They've been playing well as of late anyway and will carry confidence from that, but they could eliminate the Petes themselves on Tuesday night and with continued strong play, could still finish 6th.
Looking way too far ahead and being the eternal optimist, another reason I like 6th is that there is another chance you might not get Niagara in the 2nd round. If the Gens finish 7th and win round 1, you've got a date with Niagara in round 2 for being the lowest ranked seed of the teams remaining. If the Gens take 6th and Mississauga is 7th, there's a chance the Majors could win their 1st round series (over Ottawa perhaps) and then Mississauga would be the lowest ranked seed of the teams left, and they would get Niagara next.
First thing's first...another win tomorrow night!

Re: GENS CLINCH PLAYOFF SPOT!!!!
Hope the Gens can run their current win streak to 5 tonight in Belleville!
A regulation win in Belleville tonight would mean the Gens are guaranteed not to be 8th. It wouldn't quite solidify 8th for the Bulls, but it would put the Gens in 6th, 1 point up on the Majors. Then we'd have to wait until Friday night to see what happens between Barrie and Mississauga, before we get the Majors on Saturday.
If Niagara earns a point against the Petes on Thursday, that would guarantee them 1st, which would give Ottawa 2nd. We already know Barrie is 3rd.
Should the Gens win in regulation tonight and Niagara gets their 1 point Thursday, that would mean the Gens either get Ottawa or Barrie.

Re: GENS CLINCH PLAYOFF SPOT!!!!
Gens have played Ottawa 6 times. 2-4 Record.
Goals For - Ottawa 27 Oshawa 23
Gens have played Barrie 4 times. 2-2 Record.
Goals For - Barrie 12 Oshawa 10
Ottawa and Barrie are very close in stats
Ottawa Wins 39 GF 3.94 GA 3.09
Barrie Wins 40 GF 3.68 GA 3.05
I would probably prefer Barrie out of the two also. The 67's have Peter Mrazek and in the world junior tourney he showed he can steal games. I think Ottawa have a little more firepower up front than Barrie.

Re: GENS CLINCH PLAYOFF SPOT!!!!
6th gives you another chance to avoid Niagara as a 2nd round opponent, provided the 7th place team beat Ottawa in round 1.
Barrie will be without Behenna for the first 2 games of the series due to a suspension. That would be a benefit, playing a team who is without a 74 point guy (26G, 48A) until game 3.
In terms of how Barrie and Ottawa are playing right now, Ottawa certainly isn't playing the way they did in the first half while Barrie is on a great roll. From February to tonight, here are their records:
February: Ottawa 5-4-1-1, Barrie 9-2-0-1
March: Ottawa 3-2-0-1, Barrie 5-1-0-0
If you count those OT/SO losses as just losses, since February, the 67's have been 8-9 while the Colts have been 14-4.
With the nice win streak we're currently on, we might already be in a groove that the 67's may search a bit to find as the playoffs start, having played .500 hockey for the last month and a half.

Re: GENS CLINCH PLAYOFF SPOT!!!!
What a disasterous night for the Gens!
Bulls losing with less then 2 minutes left, tie it up and send it to overtime.
Majors losing with 11 seconds left, tie it up.
Majors win it in overtime.
Bulls win in the shoot out.
Gens now sit 8th with 2 games left.

If Oshawa wins there last 2 games they will finish 6th. Oshawa will win the tie-breaker with Mississauga if they win there last 2 games in regulation.

Re: GENS CLINCH PLAYOFF SPOT!!!!
Can u explain that my math shows if
Gens get 4 points
Majors get 2 points
Gens tie Majors
First tie breaker is number of wins.
Gens have 1 less currently but under that situation both would end up with equal wins. Second tie breaker is head to head I thought, and I believe the majors took that already.
I could be mistaken.

Re: GENS CLINCH PLAYOFF SPOT!!!!
From what I can see, even if we win our final 2 (beating Mississauga in regulation), our 73 points could still be tied with a Majors victory over Niagara on Sunday. We'd be tied on points, tied on wins (33 each), but the Majors would get the nod because of more points earned head-to-head (5 to 4). Of course, we'll know what all the possibilities are by game time Sunday night since Belleville's season is done tomorrow and Mississauga's is done Sunday afternoon.

The above is correct. I didn't notice the one match up was a shoot out win.

Re: GENS CLINCH PLAYOFF SPOT!!!!
Belleville's final game is tomorrow night against Sudbury. Since Sgarbossa and Toffoli are tied for the scoring title right now, I'm sure the Wolves would love to help Sgarbossa fill the net on Saturday. Ah, wouldn't that be nice against the Bulls.

If the Gens get Niagara game 1 goes on Thursday in Niagara, game 3 will be Sunday. Leaving the Gens to play there first home game Friday or Saturday and I would bet money on Friday.
If the Gens get Ottawa game 1 goes Friday night at 7:30 in Ottawa.
