Thoughts on outdoor games Empty Thoughts on outdoor games

Ok so with the NHL doing at least 1 outdoor game a year, and the AHL jumping on the band wagon, why not the OHL.

My thought is this. To maximize profit, make it a package deal. Leafs vs Anyone, Marlies vs Bulldogs, and finally the OHL All Star Game, or a regular season match up between two of our top teams.

The rink could be set up at BMO field. Extra seats can be added for the NHL Game. There has already been talk of this, but why set up a rink for one game when you could do 3 games. Could be over the course of a week or two.

Would you go see an OHL game even if it wasn't then Gens if it were outdoor and in Toronto. Do you think it possible to fill 20,000 seats for an OHL game?

The Skydome (sorry I mean Rogers Centre) allready has an ice pad built into it and for the life of me cannot understand why this has not allready been done. Open the roof for that outdoor effect and you could easily get 60,000 people at a leaf game. Oshawa could do it at the Civic fields or Kinsmen stadium but it wouldn't be worth it.
20,000 for OHL? Maybe the Memorial Cup.
AHL? Can't picture that at all.

Those who run the Rogers Centre won't open the roof when it's sunny and 15 degrees in April for baseball so that makes me think they aren't that inclined to want the roof open for a game in February.

Rogers Centre cannot be opened in freezing temperatures. The electronics and everything in the stadium have not been engineered to work in sub zero temperatures. They've said they can't have a game there.

I haven't given it much thought, but for the O, I might assume that it might not be cost effective. The NHL outdoor games are on network TV every time and are using the game as a showcase. The O isn't doesn't have a big tv deal to try to draw more viewers to. Could be too much of a gamble and just not make sense for a junior team. (not really clear thoughts here, maybe you get the idea)

As for outdoor games in general. I like them as long as there is not overkill. I like to see one a year in the NHL.

I can see how it could be fun, but if they charged me $100 for my ticket to see the game I wouldn't go. I am more than happy in the warm confines of the GMC. I would assume, as Lefty does, that it would be a question of financial viability. I'm OK with one a year in the NHL also. I'm happy to watch it at home, fireplace roaring.

thats why i said they should combine it with mlse

if the leafs eventually hold a game at BMO probably in the future after stadium expansion the ice would be there already, the OHL could simply rent the ice from them, this is the same reason i said the AHL could do it

tickets should be able to be the same prices as a TFC game you would think since the ice would be there already and all you would need is the stadium crew

I don't see such a large event involving the OHL. Fans in this league like the convenice of good hockey very close to home. Only if a city had a preexisting outdoor rink with adequate seating might it happen.

I forgot to record the Fenway game but watching the highlights on youtube was nice. It was nice to see Bobby Orr and Bobby Clark as honary captains. Back in the seventies they hated each other, or it seemed that way.
The guy that runs that team in toronto decided to announce the USA Olympic team after the game. They got some serious goaltending. They'll be tough to beat. I can't wait till February.
FYI there are five Generals home games during the Olympics.
