Men’s Hockey
Generals captain Jeff Hayes to join Ravens next season.
The Carleton University Ravens men’s hockey team is pleased to announce that
Jeff Hayes, captain of the Ontario Hockey League’s Oshawa Generals, will join
the Ravens for the 2010-11 season.
“Fred [Parker] is a great coach and has a good program going on here,” Hayes
said. “Carleton is well respected school. It will be nice to be home again as
well.”
The Ottawa native is having a career year with the Generals. In 47 games this
season, he has notched 16 goals and 19 assists for 35 points.
“Hopefully I can step in and bring a lot to the team next year,” he said. “I'm a
hardworking player with good speed and good puck distribution, which can make
players around me better. Hopefully I can come in next year and produce some
offense right away.”
Ravens head coach Fred Parker was excited to hear about Hayes’ decision to suit
up for the Ravens.
“I was absolutely ecstatic to get a hometown guy with the reputation he has,” he
said. “It’s not only his playing ability but the type of person he is.”
Hayes has proven to be one of the most hardworking athletes in the OHL. Despite
being drafted by the Guelph Storm in the 12th round (225th overall) five years
ago, Hayes has developed into a highly skilled centre who Parker believes he
will bring great skill and character to the Ravens.
“I’ve watched him since he was in minor midget and he was always determined and
fearless,” he said. “I think those factors contributed to him becoming a great
captain in the OHL and hopefully one with the Carleton Ravens one day.”
