DJ Smith ... Read This
What's up? I don't get it.
The Gens went into the playoffs on a roll. The Gens dominated the games in everyway making teams more or less hesitant to play them. They commanded respect on the ice and dictated the play. They KNEW what they were doing, KNEW where to be on the ice, skated without hesitation, etc, because DJ Smith dictated it all year.
Then we get to the playoffs and BOOM...totally different style and systems. WHAT THE HELL. What you are doing now, did not get you here. Yes, they beat Niagara, but Niagara had Strome and Richie and nothing else. The teams that are left HAVE TEAMS.
In my opinion, the Gens have NOT played a great game in the playoffs. They actually seem lost at times. They certainly have not played like they did the final month of the season. Do what GOT YOU HERE. Yes, you can and should add various dimensions, but you have to stick with the CORE style and systems. The Gens in the last month of the season were a team to succeed; the Gens right now are NOT.
Get Back to what got you here....they were winners.
GO GENS GO

Well in the last month there really was no big games or big tests to be fair. The only test they had was Belleville on the road and they lost. Oshawa faced alot of Kingston, Brampton...no real competition there.

core33, it doesn't matter who they played, the Gens have changed their style and systems in the playoffs....not a great time to implement new stuff. The Gens were in pretty much every game this year playing the systems that DJ implemented....everyone was saying how great of coach he is/was. Well, he has changed that....WHY??????...it got us here, tweak it, but don't change it. We lost tonight against Barrie with the system we played. I strongly believe that if we played the same system tonight as we did prior to the playoffs we would have won, and there would not have been OT.

This loss hurt. It is crystal clear that DJ's strategy is to attempt to run the opposition out of the rink. In Niagara, the plan was to pound their small defines and to intimidate Strome and it worked. That plan only works when you play very disciplined hockey and turn away from scrums after whistles, keep your yap shut and finish every check. It looks like we havent been able to rain things in...guys like Dundas continue to take stupid penalties and you can see that spreading to other players on this team...Latours slash late in the game was totally pointless for a kid that has been playing great..
Time to sit some guys down...send a message that tough does not equal stupid.

yep , the boys really got pretty casual about thi ngs when up 3 to 1 with 5 mins left , losing this way on the road REALLY hurts .........the guys have been guilty of some infractions , but the refs really sided with Barrie in this game , 7 PP to 3 , and the gens didnt get the third PP till late in the game , i saw plenty of calls they could have made against Barrie , that shit really pisses me off , its not fair .
Latours penalty that late in the game , was a joke , the guy dropped his stick to draw a penalty .
however its the no calls on interferance and holding on Barrie that isnt fair !
the gens are going to have to be better than the refs , and the coach cant use jenner too much killing penalties , wore him out last night , jenner and shemsitch fell over each other in OT on the winning goal .

I'm still pissed off that we lost yesterday game, again we don't play 60 minutes and take too many stupid penalties.1st on the 2nd goal the sea parted and not 1 of the Dman thought to hook him or trip him yeah another penalty but a good one to take, then you take a stupid penalty that there wasn't even a scoring chance.DJ Smith been preach to for most of the season that we have to play 60 minutes and not take foolish penalties, they still can't learn to do this, keep this up and we will get swept
I know we weren't going to beat Barrie 4 straight but you don't give up on a 3-1 lead with 6 minutes left in the game that Barrie was playing short handed due to suspensions and injury.so hopefully we can win fridays game
so I can be happy again.
Go Gen's Go
P.S. play 60 minutes and no stupid penalties
