What a great home opener, we came out ready scoring early and often and the game was never in doubt, defense played well, zador also was solid and he stopped the penalty shot, lots of fights and the line brawl, but when thomas scored on the first shot of the game, it was almost like he was sayin immm baaack!!! great game gennies keep it up

Didn't get to listen to the game online tonight. Just read the game sheet.
Can someone fill me in on how all the guys looked? How about the line brawl?

Re: Home opener 9/24/10
As dominating a performance I have seen. More so than the 10-0 beatdown we gave them at one point last season. They played smart, and while there were a few off moments once they had the big lead, they were very minimal. Not only that, but Zador made big saves.
As for the brawl, it started with the prior play, and Valentine absolutely crushing a pete against the boards. Clean hit. Next play Jamie (weasel) Wise sprays our goalie, and from there it was on. Once the officials got him towards the box, and had the gens player tied up, Wise thought it would be a good time to start throwing punches.
The main point throughout all this was that the Generals NEVER backed down, or even showed any sort of fear. They got in there and defended themselves, coming out on the winning end of most of the battles tonight.
D'agosti(sp) should not have been pulled. If it was a wake up tactic, then the flurry of goals on the backup (i wanna say Baker?) Should have been enough to put d'agostini back in there.
We were too big, too fast, and far to smart tonight for the Petes, and it has been a LONG time since I could truly say that.

Re: Home opener 9/24/10
The third period looked like a late night game of shinny with only four skaters on the Petes bench and five on our own bench.
Nice goal by Lessio as he undressed the Petes goalie. That game was just awesome.

Re: Home opener 9/24/10
The Gens had seven goals on 15 shots at one point. Some of them were spectacular but when your goaltending is only stopping 50% of the shots, that's big trouble.

This was one of the worst officiated games I have ever seen. The crew that did this game should be held responsible for it's getting out of hand.

While I agree that many times poor offociating can lead to this, I feel tonights events were from a combo of officiating and the fact the Petes were flat out embarrased. If the score is 7-1, and someone takes you out hard against the boards, it seems to do double damage...sort of like insult to injury.
I will say with Wise running around and getting away with most of his stunts throughout the game....that stuff should have been kyboshed right away.

Quinn was announced as a scratch, not sure if he was a healthy scratch or not.
A player worth mentioning - JP Labardo on the penalty kill, hustles by the defenseman who was lazily skating back to the puck, kills off 20-30 seconds pinning the puck against the boards and then when he finally loses it, he hustles back to the defensive end - and this happens while up by seven goals. Pretty amazing stuff from a player that surprised with an offensive touch with a few goals during training camp. An early candidate for most improved General?

Andreoff has something in his bonnet. His play has improved. He is really hustleing this year. And he is positinoning himself better on the ice. I think he could be a candidate too?

Home Opener 9/24
It was nice to see Jason at the Season tickets door, as well as Tullio, and Graves. I told them I was extremely pleased with this years team, which they commented on as well. We have offense, and defense is coming together, we may not need a stellar goaltender if we continue to dominate the puck. As far as the fights go, we held our own and should we can't and won't be pushed around. The hit Valentine made reminds me of when he first came to us, perhaps he was reminded of his enthusiam back then, for a while he was not playing imo his best WOW what an improvement for this team. Oh and Bailie you keep opening the doors for the boys, lets not ruin a good thing. Zador made some key saves last night.

Home Opener 9/24/10
I was at the game and enjoyed it thoroughly.
The team has changed dramatically from last season.
All players seem to have that extra jump in their skates and seem to have that determination to give the extra effort that is much needed in playing at this level.
Their attitude and spirit is very refreshing.
I was also pleased to see that the Gens were prepared to take on all Petes who decided they would bully the Gens with their fighting and none of the Gens backed down.
I believe we beat them not only on the scoreboard but also in the fighting.
I thought Zador played very well in net and hope he can keep up this level of play as the season continues.
Sincerely

Re: Home opener 9/24/10
It was nice to see that all players except three (Laughton, Hope and Zador) had at least one point in this game. Laughton did fight though and was impressive.
I agree that J.P. Labardo is off to an amazing start and has improved drastically. His confidence is showing in his play.
As far as Zador, he made some great saves tonight. I guess the goalies are only as good as the team in front of them.
What a great team effort. Way to go Gens.
