Game 5 - Oshawa & Niagara
A friend of mine whose son is school friends with Boone Jenner tells me that Boone admits they didn't play very well the other night, but is convinced that the Gens will win tonight in Niagara. Go Gens Go!!! A positive attitude can't hurt

Re: Game 5 - Oshawa & Niagara
I didn't think they plaed all that badly except for the asinine penalties they kept taking. They were just outplayed by a better team with more depth and a solid goaltender. Also. as usual, lots of chances but lack of finish around the net.

Re: Game 5 - Oshawa & Niagara
There was some roughing after the whistle and Lessio got a 4 minute penalty. He also gave a two-handed salute to the crowd as he was leaving the ice, which I believe is why he got the game misconduct. I was hoping to see the Gens not end this game by taking bad penalties, but unfortunately they got frustrated and let emotions get the best of them. That's something to work on next season when they will be a bit older and more experienced.

Re: Game 5 - Oshawa & Niagara
So after a poor effort on Wed , The coaching staff take the day off on Thursday . and practiced this morning . Oh well . I personaly would have had them stay in St Catherines last night , have a team meal and re emphasis hard work , conviction and team defence
It was a great season , made alot of strides and a bright future .
All the best to the Da Silva, Berger and DeHart .
And there will be a couple of moves in the near future to shore up goaltending and defence , Stay tuned
Side note """ Lessio gives the double finger to ice dogs fans as he is escorted off the ice .

Re: Game 5 - Oshawa & Niagara
Gens started the game with the same mentality and tactics as they did in game 4. They tried to run the Dogs out of the rink and get them to retaliate. No dice. Gens again get into penalty trouble, the Dogs capitalized and built a lead the the Generals couldn't dig themselves out of.
I don't know why Oshawa decided to go with that approach. When the played smart 5 on 5 hockey after the first period they played very well. It obviously didn't work in game 4. Why try it again? They didn't intimidate anyone.
The Dogs added a couple late ones to put it out of reach. The fans were whooping it up and got on Lessio in a big time way. Chants of LUUUUCCCAAASSS and LEEESSSSSSIIIIOOOOO! were loud and got to the kid, a few teammates and DiPiero had to talk to him and come him down as he was slamming his stick against the boards and glass.
Next shift... Lessio went after one of the Dogs Euro defencemen that hasn't fought once in his entire OHL career. Again, No dice. The Dogs player will have none of it. The fans are all over Lessio... he then saluted them by giving him the double middle finger as he left the ice. (4 minutes for roughing, ten minute misconduct and a game misconduct)
I think Mr. Lessio will be watching the early part of next season from the seats as I'm sure there will be a suspension coming his way.
The last two games were very ones sided, but the series as whole was entertaining as both teams have speed and can score. I think these same two teams will be battling it out for the Conference title next year, as both teams have numerous returnees.
Congrats to the Gens on a great season.

Re: Game 5 - Oshawa & Niagara
IMO a playoff letdown. Gens were swept aside fairly easily. Dips had all the pieces in place and obviously was a non factor at the most important time in the season. Time for a change.

Let's hope so. The 'experiment' has run it's full course. Time for the big boys to take charge. Let's follow Windsor's lead and make it happen!

Re: Game 5 - Oshawa & Niagara
It is too bad we lost. But one team was going to lose. Although we are left with a bitter taste, both players and fans....it was a very good learning experience for our young players. The level of competition in playoffs is not the same as regular season. I think the lesson was learned...although with some big lumps....but the messege was received I am sure of that.
Bad penalties...lack of discipline and lack of prepardness....cost us the series.
I feel we were beat by a much better prepared team. The come from behind win every game...just too hard. I don't care how talented you are.
We gave up 4 or 5 goals in the first period all season, not just the playoffs. And the attempt to play the trap, that we did not play all year...in the playoffs, was not right time in my opinioin.
It was very rare that we are/were prepared for the first 20 minutes. In my opinion that is the biggest obstacle this coaching staff has to address. How to be prepared from the drop of the puck to the ending buzzer. We find that...our talent will do the rest. Mistakes will happen...I can accept that...but continually getting beat and falling behind by 3-5 goals in the first is crazy. Here's hoping coach will review the tapes....and make the changes needed.
Although this sounded harsh...I was still happy to see playoffs...and very happy with the Gens progress this season. I look forward to more growth and a much further drive next year. Go Gens Go!!!

A skilled coach who has his team prepared and motivated often does not get noticed.

Dips has been here long enough! What are we going back into next year with the same old strategy, motivational, and disapline issues for another season? Common now ...let's get real!
