2012-2013 OA's
Labardo
Sabourin
Thomas
Clark
Graves
Petgrave
Quinn
Schemitsch
Bailie
Who would you most like to see back?
I'd most like to see Clark, Petgrave and Labardo back. Clark and JP are two players that I love to watch, they give all they have game in and game out and are two of the things I have enjoyed most about the current season. Petgrave while he has only been here a short time I can see becoming a fan favorite if given the time here in Oshawa.
However if your looking to put the best product possible on the ice you'd probably do best going with Thomas, Schmitsch and Petgrave. My thoughts being that Altshuller should be the number one next year, or there should have been no trade, so cross off Bailie. Quinn, Graves, Clark and Sabourin don't bring enough to the table to be considered over these three in my opinion. That leaves Labardo the odd man out, love him as a player but I think if everyone returned next year Schemitsch on Defence will be needed to boost are D more then Labardo needed to boost the Offence.
What are your thoughts?
Anyone else thinking an NHL lockout could be a good thing? Less spots on AHL teams for guys like Thomas and Petgrave since NHL players with two way contracts take up alot of extra spots.

Re: 2012-2013 OA's
Im with you and say Clark, Petgrave and Labardo back!!
Clark is one of my fav gens and gives 100% every game and so does JP and petgrave is turning out to be a great defenceman already and loves to get up into the offence as much as possiable. So getting these 3 back would be great.

Re: 2012-2013 OA's
I would think Labardo, Petgrave and Schemitsch if available would be the best choices.
Thomas has done all he can in Oshawa. He needs to play in the AHL and return to the player he was a year ago.
I think Thomas is the only one who was drafted but I could see Petgrave signing a pro contract as well.
Much as I like Clark's energy and enthusiasm I do not see him playing on the 1st or 2nd line.
It all changes if there is an NHL lockout or strike.

Re: 2012-2013 OA's
Thomas , Petgrave and Schemitsch - that's who I would like back
Not sure who will come back - as a fan we want them all back
As of today Thomas is not ready for AHL play and would benefit from another year here. He needs to do what he hasn't done so far this year and that is lead this team ....
But it doesn't always go that way

Re: 2012-2013 OA's
While I agree Thomas has had a poor season another year in Oshawa is unlikely to help. Perhaps he needs more of a challenge to bring his game to the level it should.
In my view he has all the tools but the execution (and perhaps effort) has been lacking this season.

Re: 2012-2013 OA's
Thomas won't be able to earn a spot on an AHL team if there is a lockout and if he goes to camp and plays the way he started this season for us. That being said he's turned a corner and is playing better then at the start of the year.

Re: 2012-2013 OA's
Schemitsh is drafted by Tampa bay- so he crack the ahl or echl. I could see petgrave signing with someone. Could be another valentine. No ever knows what's going to happen. That's why I wasn't a big fan of the trade - both could be gone next year, and we could have had hope for two more years.
I know everyone loves clarkie, he's a great kid, but I don't want to waste an oa position on some who gets maybe 5-7 mins of ice time a night (if he's lucky). I could see Thomas back, hes definitely not ready to move up. Jp I'd take in a second- he's a little firecracker and seems like 100% team player. If one of the dman can't come back, I'd probably take sabourin. Althought not a huge offense guy, gets a reg shift and usually gives 100% when out there.
It's going to a long season next year , boys will down 9 guys from this year, regardless of who stays.

Re: 2012-2013 OA's
My thoughts on Clark returning would be only if we were rebuilding and guys like Jenner, Lessio, Thomas, Jensen are all gone. I'd like to see him on the 1st or 2nd line next year. Someone to look after the new kids and someone for the fans to watch during a long season (if we rebuild).
Is he capable I dunno, but I think he is capable of playing alot more minutes. Every game this year that he has gotten the chance to play he's taken the oppurtunity and run with it. Also in the summer he played well over a few shifts a game for lacrosse so he can definately keep up athletically.

Re: 2012-2013 OA's
Ownership is talking about making a bid for the 2014 Memorila Cup
So there will be no rebuild as the team that looks good next year will help with the bid
If all players return - you have tradeable assets to reload for the future - that is what other teams do

That's the issue to this thread -- all players can't return. Each team is limited to havig 4 OA's rostered at the beginning of the season, and 3 by the trade deadline.
Oshawa will have nine players, and will have to decide which five to get rid of before the season begins. with most of the better OA's still having a chance at sticking in the minor pro's then, there will be little market for them.
If they truly wanted to "reload for the future", most of these players should have been traded at this year's trade deadline -- there was a market for them then.

Re: 2012-2013 OA's
If I had to guess and I will, here's how I think the overage will sort out. Bailie will be traded to make room for Appleby who's getting shell shocked in Kirkland Lake. Schemitsch will go to college, Petgrave will go pro and Thomas won't( too small to play pro) so he will return for a major growth year (50 goals). The Gens defence will be decimated so Quinn will be retained for experience. They will bring in a rookie centre and Hughes will assume Labardo's spot, releasing or trading him. Clark, Sabourin and Graves will be returned to contest the last two spots and two of them will be traded (whoever is in demand) to cut down to three at the deadline.

Re: 2012-2013 OA's
can never have enough D men , so i would want petgrave and shemitsch, back , I don't see how thomas can make the pro's , so i will bet he will be back , if one or more of the D men don't come back , i would want clark and or sabourin , as both i feel would improve with more ice time and they bring a lot of grit to protect the younger players . I agree Bailie should be traded , the other goalies will be ready . If for whatever reason we need to keep quinn and labardo , then this team will be in real trouble and you can forget the mem cup bid for 2014 , this team will be in early rebuild mode , you just don't get the mem cup at that stage , not competitive enough to play in the tournament .

Overage players can still be traded at the draft in May , in the summer , at training campand anytime up until the season starts and until you name your 4 overagers .

If we are in full rebuild next year, is it conceivable that the team might go with no OA players?

Re: 2012-2013 OA's
How are you in full rebuild - we do have 3 good centers
Jenner , Laughton - Cassels
Jensen - lessio- Udvara should return
Def - Brown - Carlisle - Sullentrop
Labardo - I would keep hopefully Thomas
In net Altshuller &(Baille )
Hopefully the rebuild is in the front office (likely if we miss the playoffs)
