rivalries night in peteborough (GENS @ PETES)
GENNIES renew hatred with the PETES in a BIG BIG way tonight....yes they blew a 3-0 lead to lose in a shootout but thats just the hockey part of it...LOL..How bout 106 PIM, 4 players ejected including both starting goalies for fighting, 8 fights in total and one of the oldest and most heated rivalries in all of hockey.....This game was nuts!!!!!!!!
If the OHL used NHL stats formula, Generals, Petes game would be at 200 PIM going into the 3rd.WOW OHL doesn't count misconducts. Peterborough's Clark Seymour and Andrew D'Agostini, Oshawa's Justice Dundas and Daniel Altshuller all facing 2-game suspensions.(THAT SUCKS FOR THE GENNIES) We corrected earlier tweet on who is Oshawa/Peterborough players are facing suspensions. Goalies are automatic, skaters were for 2nd fights.
At least Alltshullier will get some rest now!!!
Bush fight ended badlly, hope hes alright, he looked out of it leaving the ice, was winning the fight till that KO punch at the end.
But North bay beat sudbury and are now tied with the wolves who are now both 7 points behind us and kingston CRUSHED barrie who are now 9 points back.
Will post video of this when i find it, trust me it was CRAZY!!!!
TWEET OF THE NIGHT.............................Hardest working guy in the building is the one doing the game sheet. LMFAO
Your thoughts?????????????????????

Re: rivalries night in peteborough (GENS @ PETES)
Was this a way to clear away all the bad mojo that seems to have been hanging around the gennies as of late or was this the iceing on the cake last night.
For the weekend now we will be without DUNDAS, ALLTSHULLIER, BUSH and the gens will have to call up a backup for Appleby to cover the time alltshullier will be gone.
The 3rd period last night was very ugly, the giveaways where brutal (you see that two on zero for the petes, thank god Appleby was there). It could have been a lot worse if not for saves by Appleby.
They have to get over the mentality of winning ever other game or so or the teams chasing will be passing them instead.I think DJ has to come up with a system and lines that work and stick with it and Laughton has to play like he was before the WJHC.Hes not playin the same since hes come back.
The gens also after last night are back to leading the league in penalty minutes, leading owen sound by 3 minutes. This was not their winning formula earlier in the season, they where staying out of the box, playing smart hockey and playing great defence all while their special teams where great.....Whats changed, why this sudden attitude change now when the team needs to be playing solid hockey and wrapping up home ice advantage for the playoffs..

Ok I'll admit I'm getting nervous. The gens are 8-10 in last 18 games. Not pretty. Laughton hasn't looked the same since start of year. It's seems its tough to score for these guys. Without altshuller we would be where we were predicted to be. Was it significant releasing Hughes? I don't know it seemed he was well liked on the team. Last night you go up 3-0 on a Pete's team with a back up who looks pretty bad at the start. North bay, Sudbury and Kingston are coming on and I'm nervous.

Re: rivalries night in peteborough (GENS @ PETES)
A lot of times it's games like this that bring a team closer together. Although the Gens have won their fair share of games the last month or so I really haven't been impressed with their play. It's tough mentally for a team that's been out in front the entire season by a wide margin (and still are) to keep there heads in every game and get up for every game. I could tell in the game against Mississauga that Altshuller wanted to fight.. I'm not surprised he finally did. It's almost as though he was a little bored. Fans shouldn't be worried about this team at all. The bottom line is they need to win their division and ideally secure the top seed in the conference. They can do it by 10 points or 1 point, I don't care as long as that's how they finish. Oshawa has a very easy schedule for the rest of the year so ideally they're able to secure enough points to get that done. I'll be interested to see how they respond tonight and Sunday.

You can't play 2 periods and win.... I don't know what DJ is doing.....lines always juggled no chemistry....your team just blew a 3 goal lead.....take a time out!......This team is becoming as frustrating as last years team...I hope that this team is not coming down to earth.

Re: rivalries night in peteborough (GENS @ PETES)
KHE I would agree their schedule is so called easy right now but they have lost to the Pete's, 67s in two of last three and without altshuller barely beat the steelheads. I hope I'm wrong but this lead is evaporating fast . They need the 1 seed because if they drop to 3 or 4 it could be out in two rounds. Then you will really hear the fans say we should have traded Laughton etc. I still think there is time but the last month has not been the team we watched in the first half.

Re: rivalries night in peteborough (GENS @ PETES)
DJs decision not to call a timeout flabbergasted me. Gens came out in the third looking like a timbit squad. For a coach who is never afraid to call a timeout when he doesn't like what he sees, the lack of a timeout call blew me away to be honest.
The way I saw this game, if that goalie fight didn't happen, we don't get the regulation point. For as bad as that third period was, the first two weren't exactly great efforts. Petes wanted it more from the start imo.
We had a couple of breaks and put 2 behind a goalie who we should have really been firing the pucks at.
Appleby looked lost in that shootout, but it was the team to blame for the eventual loss. It frankly had no business going into extra time. Now it's Applebys chance to prove his abilities, as he rarely gets starts but will definitely be getting them now. As for losing Dundas for some games, that's a non-issue.

Tonights game vs the rangers should be a winable game, i hope!!!
Sunday - we get the petes back in oshawa.....Anyone a bit worried bout this return match or is it over now!!!!
next is ottawa - hopefully we can win that over the last place team..
but next 2 are north bay and london....both will be very tough games, so the gens better buck up and get thier crap together and fix thier problems fast.

Winnable games
Break down the last 16 and to me it is a dog fight not an easy schedule
16 games - 4 vs Kingston - 2 vs North Bay - 1 vs London - 1 vs Sudbury - 8 games =
8 left - 2 vs Petes - 3 vs Bulls - 1 vs 67 ;s - 1 vs Kitchener - 1 Missy - 8 games
Not an easy ending when our best game is behind us - 9 -7 maybe

Not with Appleby in net it's not a winable game,he can't stop a beach ball,if we would of had Altshuller in net for the game we would of won yesterdays ,and now the next 3 with Appleby in net as Altshuller has to sit out for 3 game suspension I can't see us winning the next 3. Will be very surpised if we win any of the next 3

Re: rivalries night in peteborough (GENS @ PETES)
I agree with KHE. They're teenagers, it's only natural that they don't have the same compete level when they had such a huge margin between themselves and everybody else. The teams in the Western Conference have a close race to motivate them. The Gens are coasting a bit.
As for line juggling, DJ feels comfortable to experiment given the big lead in the standings, trying out various things before it really matters leading into the playoffs. My feeling is that he's treating this sort of like the pre-season in that the big lead allows him the freedom to try out different combinations and see what happens.
I don't actually know that, just speculating.

A little adversity never hurt anyone - Altshuller gets his much needed rest many thought he needed - Appleby can rise in the next 3 - But everyone in front of him must elevate their game as well
The team that will suit on Sunday should want to avenge that loss vs Petes
The game tonight vs Rangers and the Boys need to suck it up and play better
Then next Friday vs the 67's - another game to make amends vs 67's
The motivation should be their to take the next 3 games or you can kiss 1 st place good bye

Re: rivalries night in peteborough (GENS @ PETES)
I'm losing confidence in this coach , seems to me he is unable to motivate this team to be ready to play , his line combos are horrible , when the gens lose this many games against teams they should clearly clobber if they really are contenders , there is something more than a little slump going on , I think he has lost the players !!!!!! We. 'Ve all seen this before !,, too bad !
I was so optimistic about this team before the Xmas break !!!!!!?????

Well we squeak a road win in Kitchener , thankfully. ,
Btw guys and gals I wish we would stop saying that the gens have an easy schedule the rest if the way , cuz I think the players are thinking that too and not getting ready to compete , taking it easy , they probably read this blog

Re: rivalries night in peteborough (GENS @ PETES)
Lots of things DJ Smith does really throws me for a loop. I mean early in the year when the Generals where on an absolute tear he would change line combinations every games and he still does... Why change your lines an shake things up when your winning an it's working ?
Why put Vande Sompel up front when he's arguably your only real mobile, puck rushing/moving defensemen. He justify's it by saying he used to play forward and they where thin up front. Well they where short two guys... The generals use their fourth line once a period... I don't see how being short to guys justify's moving your most mobile defensemen up to forward. An really I'm sure any d-man could move up an play forward if it really needed to be done.
He plays Altshuller way way way to much. Now I get he's our number one an he's a top goalie. But we are clearly anticipating a long playoff run.. He's gonna burn him out. Appleby is very capable. Appleby often has trouble coming in cold off the bench, but when he starts I think he's a very capable OHL goalie.
I think the WJC really shook Laughtons confidence, while he still is elite, he just does not look the same.

We have 13 forwards and 7 defence men. Dundas and Busch couldn't play so we dressed 11 and 7 very simple.
