2nd round picks are the most highly coveted because they're the highest pick you can get in a deal. Yes that makes them high value, I'm not saying they're invaluable. But your telling me we need a boatload of 2nd an 3rd round picks to build a contender through the draft. No team wins a memorial cup strictly through the draft. Teams that win generally trade their 2nd/3rd round picks for quality players. An teams usually in the position to win an "go for it" have built their team with deep round picks, hitting on lots of hidden gens. Have got solid imports and have their rookies excelling.
I'm certainly not devaluing 2nd round picks, I'm simply saying you don't need to trade off all your assets, recoup tons of 2nd round picks an build your team through the 2nd round of the draft to win a memorial cup.

Hey Mackers 88 , you seem to really have your finger on the pulse of the players in the league , perhaps you could make a list of overage or at least veteran defensemen that could be acquired this season , to have legitimate shot at the oho title I think we need to bolster our D
Carlisle is getting points but against top clubs I feel he is a liability on D , and Templeton , Robertson , and a Hertzberg are not ready
Any ideas ?

You can't go to the ohl title and the memorial cup with holes on Defense , and right now we have holes

I think Templeton is fine, good mobility, plays with a physical edge, smart and simple plays for the most part. Had a bad game this evening. I agree though an upgrade is need on the back end.
I'd love Marcus McIvor I feel he'd be an ideal pickup, good two-way defender, but excels in the gritty games.
Brendan Miller from North Bay, another good option, solid defensively but brings a decent offensive punch as well.
Erie has 3 overage defenseman, Donnay, Genovese & MacDermid, I think MacDermid is the most well rounded, and brings the biggest return for the Otters so he's likely the one to go.
Josh Chapman from Sarnia
Max Iafrate, Kitchener & Corbett from Sudbury, all options

MacDermid is also very tough , mean D man , we could use that edge

Will be interesting to see if the gens try to improve in this area , hope they do something while these guys may be available , ie don't wait till the last minute , you snooze , you lose

Unless of course you think we can get it back in another deal , very interesting play , because we may have a real shot with one of those additional D men

Personally I feel they'll wait a bit, there really is no rush at this point, they're enjoying a great start to the season, where they played without Josh Brown and Dal Colle, now with both back, they'll probably give Templeton, Robertson & Hertzberg some time to prove their worth, or at the very least "showcase" them for a potential trade.
As far as the cost of a McDermid, McIvor, Miller and so on.. the market will be dictated as the season progresses, who goes for what will dictate what the next guy goes for an so on. I've only ever seen McDermid play live once so my opinion on him may not be as accurate as other players. With that being said, If Marcus McIvor cost a 2nd round pick an just that, I would do it. He is worth it. Just because he's not flashy or a big point producer does not mean he's not worth a 2nd rounder. Ideally I'd like to move Chris Carlisle, Joe Manchurek & a 2nd and possibly some depth picks spanning 3 season, you know 6,7,8,9th round picks for Marcus McIvor & Brendan Miller. The one thing to keep in mind is while North Bay isn't exactly a cup contender, they've had a great start. So these guys may not be an option. Corbett from Sudbury could come for a 4th or 5th or a guy like Manchurek or something in that price range and he could be decent upgrade on what we have.
