How do i start playing hockey?

Post by JashimChando on Thu Apr 15, 2010 1:22 am

I'm 16 and new to hockey but I really want to play. I played floor hockey in gym class and was pretty good. I used to skate a little but not really. I am interested in both ice and roller hockey. I have been saving up for equipment too.

16 is a tough age to begin hockey, but never too late. Your best option is to take power skating lessons, and maybe take a few hockey schools. I would also recommend just skating as much as you can, play shinny at your local arena, roller blade as much as you can. When you turn 18 you can join the ASHL and play as a beginner in a recreation division … go from there.

There are roller hockey and summer ice hockey leagues out there. Some are competitive, but some are just for fun. The ones for fun are full of people that are relatively new to the organized sport. Check out the summer activity books that come out in the paper.
