Re: Whats up,why GENS so silent on TRADE FRONT!!!
Done deal.....it is on the Attack website...
The Owen Sound Attack is pleased to announce that they have acquired defenseman Kyle Hope and two Second Round draft picks from the Oshawa Generals (Sault Ste. Marie 2nd in 2012 and Oshawa 2nd in 2015) in exchange for defensemen Geoffrey Schemitsch and Matt Petgrave.
“Firstly, we wish to thank both Geoffrey and Matt for their contributions to our organization during their time here.”, stated Attack General Manager Dale DeGray. “They were both large pieces to our Championship puzzle last season and we wish them both the nothing but the best in their future endeavours.”
In exchange for Schemitsch and Petgrave, the Attack received defenseman Kyle Hope and Two Second Round Draft Choices. In 30 games this season, the Blenheim, ON. native has tallied 3 goals and 21 assists to go along with 41 Penalty Minutes. The 6’1 rearguard is in his third Ontario Hockey League season, all with the Generals and is a 1993 born left shot. Kyle will be wearing #26 for the Attack.
“We feel that this deal helps us both now and in the future.”, stated DeGray. “It was a goal of ours to obtain a 2nd Round Pick for the 2012 OHL Priority Selection and also acquire an 18 year old defenseman. We are thrilled to have Kyle in our lineup and as a part of our organization.”
The Attack wishes to welcome Kyle and his family to the Attack organization. Hope is expected to be in the line-up tonight when the Attack hosts Brampton.

I like this trade. I was really warming up to Kyle this year. Really liked his energy, attitude, drive and enthusiasm. Sorry to see him go. The two new guys will be good additions and should stabilize the defence somewhat. Schemitsch has had some injury problems this year but was rated quite high last year and Petgrave is a solid defender who can quarterback the offence to replace Hope in that role. Welcome to the 'schwa, boys!

Re: Whats up,why GENS so silent on TRADE FRONT!!!
I think this is a good trade as it address our defence issues, and it came on the cheap side, yeah 2 2nds one in 2015 and the other one is SSM 2012 Did we ever made a trade SSM that they gave us a 2nd or is there another trade that was made to require it to make the completion of the OS trade.I know Pettacio(sp) name has been mentioned,But still a good trade Dips

Re: Whats up,why GENS so silent on TRADE FRONT!!!
Rumour on another board has the Gens giving up Petaccio to the Soo for picks, probably the 2nd they moved to the 'Sound' and possibly others or perhaps just the one. So Hope. Petaccio and a 2nd in 2015 for Schemitsch and Petgrave?

Re: Whats up,why GENS so silent on TRADE FRONT!!!
loosepucks just reported that gens trade plymouths 3rd and 2nd 2012 for saults 2nd 2012 which was then flipped to finalize the deal for the 2 defensemen

Re: Whats up,why GENS so silent on TRADE FRONT!!!
Can't say I'm a big fan of the trade. I do not understand giving up a 93 for two 92. Both the these guys are going to be oa's next year- in addition to the stock pile we already have (7). Kyle was finally starting to come into his role (don't forget last year the kid was stuck as a forward). He's the type of kid that would have made a great oa in 2014 when then gens are planning on bidding for the cup and need a contending team. The gens now have 9 damn so you know there is more trades coming down the pipe. This is a bandaid solution for this year. IMO if dips had of being doing his gm job back in October and November when the team was hurting and putting the right pieces into place, they wouldn't be in the position they are now.
And for God sakes take valentine off the roster he is not coming back!!! Move on!

Re: Whats up,why GENS so silent on TRADE FRONT!!!
DeGray says he wanted a 2nd round pick in 2012. We had one (Plymouth's) before sending it to the Soo didn't we? I guess where Plymouth will be picking in the 2nd round wasn't early enough for DeGray's liking so we had to send 2 picks to get an earlier 2nd back for him?
The trade addresses the need on D. Certainly a positive that Petgrave and Schemitsch have championship experience. Schemitsch had a 40 point (4G, 36A) rookie season when the Attack were a non-playoff team. In watching the broadcast the last few seasons when the Gens have been in Owen Sound, we sure saw a lot of good shots from the point from Petgrave. Hopefully it continues!

Re: Whats up,why GENS so silent on TRADE FRONT!!!
That 2nd from the Soo cost us a 2nd and 3rd from Plymouth...the 3rd being the primary payoff for Cody Payne so you could say the two defencemen sort of cost Hope, Payne and two 2nds, the Soo's and ours in 2015! Is that right or am I confused?

Re: Whats up,why GENS so silent on TRADE FRONT!!!
Great trade in my opinion. A costly one, but you have to give something of value to receive something of value. Would be nice to package one or all of Quinn, Maggio and McDowell to fill out our top 4 with Suellentrop and the two new guys, or at least trade the ones who could get the best return to recoup some of the picks. I can't imagine that we have too many 2nd to 4th round picks left in the next few years.

Re: Whats up,why GENS so silent on TRADE FRONT!!!
Well you must be careful what you ask for
I see we gain 2 19 yr olds on De and give up an 18 yr old De plus 4 picks
I think Niagara will steamroll through the division - hope we are not 1st
At this point we are a non playoff team - we are playing better BUT - I
WOULD RATHER US HAVE BEEN SELLERS and see the new young kids develop - our owners are looking at playoff revenue- I can understand that
As far as Valentine goes he must stay on our list until 1 second before the Overage deadline - just in case a back room deal made him available and we lost him for nothing
Kyle Hope gets assist in O T win last night vs Brampton - congrats Kyle

Re: Whats up,why GENS so silent on TRADE FRONT!!!
Not to be "picky" but the cost for Petgrave et al was Hope and three picks. The 2nd we sent to the Soo was "returned" to us so we are down the 3rd at that point then we transfer the Soo's 2nd and another (ours?) and Hope to Owen Sound. Net loss = Hope, the 3rd sent to the Soo the 2nd from the Soo and the 2015 pick. Right?

Re: Whats up,why GENS so silent on TRADE FRONT!!!
In the end we only lost 2 picks. We sent Ply 2/3 in 12 to SSM for 2 in 12, then sent the SSM pick with a 2 in 15 and Hope to OS for Petgrave, Schemitsch and a 4th in 15......Therefore, from the start of the day, we gave up Ply 2 and 3 in 12 and a 2 in 15 (three picks) and got back a 4 in 15, thus making the day a diff of only 2 picks.

Re: Whats up,why GENS so silent on TRADE FRONT!!!
You are absolutely correct TipcoSr. I forgot about the 4th which wasn't mentioned in the early releases. Although, I don't place much value on picks after the third round. Unless they are a 'flyer pick' like McDowell etc., they seldom make the team. I like this trade although we' probably regret it at draft time! Hopefully, we will have one of the two additions back next year or they would be a high-value trade commodity. Having nine defencemen, not including Valentine, on our current roster might allow for more movement between now and Tuesday?

has to be another trade coming, when was the last time a team had 9 dmen on the roster long term? seems like you would have alot of upset players not getting ice time

The ghost of Peter tsimikalis is the reason that Valentine has been kept on the list. And under the title of the rich get richer who knew that Tyler Randell would just happen to be sent back to Kitchener from Providence SO WHERE IS TYLER BIGGS IN HIS DEVELOPMENT, MR. BURKE?

Re: Whats up,why GENS so silent on TRADE FRONT!!!
Battalion announcers say that the gens are not done and that they are looking for a gun still. My question is why not a goalie yes altshuller is playing well but do we need another forward? Looking at a couple more trades sounds like.
