in Owen Sound - now we can check back in about 2 hours as we don't draft again until the last pick in the 3rd round

Scouting Report: Michael is a big centre with high end offensive skills. He
is most effective when he has the puck on his stick and is setting up his
teammates. Michael's strongest part of his game is in the offensive zone
from the top of the circles down. He controls and protects the puck extremely
well off the cycle where he creates the majority of his scoring
chances. Michael is one of the better playmakers in the draft and when he
gets the opportunity to score he usually finishes on his chances.

No knock on dal colle , but I was really hoping for the stud defenseman Jake Middleton , he's big and ready to play , I' m starting to think The owner has something to do with this pick , I sick thought I know , I'm disapointed we seriously needed a top you D man first .

Here is my prediction the Gen's will that a D-man with there 3rd pick, and it will be off the board.

Opps I was wrong we took a small centre Owen McDade

He's not small! Supposedly weighed in at the 185 lb. area! And just under 6 ft.!

5'11" is small to me, 185lbs is a little chunky

Maybe, not selecting a defenceman means DePiero is expecting one or both of Petgrave and Schmitsch back next year or they might have selected Middleton.

That's exactly what I was thinking when they didn't take Middleton as was rate the 2nd best d-man after McKeown.

The Petes were hoping to get McDade at some point.

Okey we will take a d-man in this years draft Gen's are stock piling centremen with there 4th pick they selected Joe Manchurek.

I'm wondering out loud here can the Gen's make a triple play as Joe Manchurek is one of triples. and Brother Mark & Robbie is a d man

Looking ahead, IF, and that's a big 'IF' Petgrave and Schmitsch return, they would be valuable commodities to move at the 2013 trade deadline, depending how the 2012-13 edition of the Gennies stacks up? I have got to get a life!

I hope they go for them (Manchureks) in the next rounds. Nothing to lose as few 6th rounders and beyond seldom make it anyway.

The Gennies are soooo slow announcing/introducing their picks on their OHL site compared to most other teams.

Well I guess top picks are top picks , this centre they picked is supposed to be really good at finding the open man and setting up plays , he is not a swift skater apparently , I don't know , I" m a bit frustrated , whenever the gens made it to the big show , they did so with a top set of D men , defense wins championships , and yet dips picked forwards with his first few picks , who knows what the agenda is ! I understand Petgrave and shemistch are coming back, they better otherwise we are in for another year like this past one

Don't forget we have a couple of kids from last years draft that show huge possibilities D-man William Petschenig, Rory McGuire and Tyler Hore all are over 6'

I think DePiero and his scouting crew did a fine job yesterday. Considering the Gens did not have a 2nd and for all intents and purposes, a 3rd, they fared quite well. Da Colle is considered to be one of the top three big centres in the draft; McDade was looked at as a solid 2nd rounder by many; Manchurek was ranked much higher on a few mock draft boards and Brett Seney who is miniscule at 5''7" and 140 lbs., would have been a top 2-3 round selection if he had much more size. Hope he grows 2" and puts on 20lbs. by the fall! Not at all bad all things considered. Give Chris a slow clap.
