Re: Summer Trades and Activity amongst OHL Sqauds
To Erie Otters from Sudbury Wolves Corey Genovese, Kingston's 3rd Round Pick in 2015 & Oshawa's 4th Round Pick in 2016 in exchange for Connor Crisp & Jimmy McDowell.
Good trade for the Otters, they acquire the defensive defensemen they've been looking for to round out there defensive core, as well as receive some fairly high draft picks in exchange for what have become spare parts.
Genovese, like I mentioned Genovese is a defensive defensemen standing 6 foot 2 and weighing in at 201. He started his OHL career with the Kitchener Rangers in 2011-2012 and split last season between the Rangers and the Wolves. In 118 OHL games he has 2 goals and 9 assists for 11 points a plus 8 rating and 175 penalty minutes. He's born on Oct 14 1994 so he will not be an OA this season.
Crisp, Crisp is most notably known for filling in, in goal last season for the Otters when they decided to dress just one goal an he was injured during the game in Niagara. Crisp was a 2nd round pick 31st overall by Erie in 2010. Over the course of his first two season's he struggled posting just 5 goals and 1 assist in 54 games. However last season he put up 22 goals and 14 assists for 36 points in 63 games. With Strome and Burakovsky coming into the Otters top 6 it made Crisp expendable.
McDowell, as I'm sure you know McDowell was a former General. Originally committed to Michigan State University(I believe), he came into the OHL with some hype. He however has never really panned out to much more then a 5th or 6th depth defensemen. He does bring some toughness, veteran leadership and is a pretty good skater. He did have a breakout season in 2012-2013 posting 14 goals and 19 assists for 33 points in 67 games, although he was a minus 43 on the season. McDowell is an OA this season, an although the Otters didn't need to move an OA, it does free up a spot for them to add one later in the season if there in the position they expect to me come the playoffs.

To Saginaw Spirit from London Knights, Justin Sefton in Exchange for a Conditional 15th Round Pick. (Condition being if Sefton plays one game for Saginaw, the Knights receive North Bay's 3rd Round Pick in '14 & Saginaw's 6th Round Pick in '14).
Sefton is Possibly entering his 5th OHL season, I say possibly as Sefton is property of the San Jose Sharks, who drafted him in the 3rd round 89th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry draft. Sefton was acquired by London from Sudbury at least years trade deadline to strengthen their blue line for the playoff run. He suited up in 25 regular season games scoring 1 goal and adding 4 assists for 5 points as well as suiting up for 20 playoff games. Sefton has seemingly fallen out of favour in London, and although being a good player he was simply not need, so London cashed in an acquired a few draft picks.
It's really 50/50 if Sefton ever suites up for the Spirit, but if he does he will undoubtedly see big minutes with a team that looks to be in a good position to make a run at things this season.

Re: Summer Trades and Activity amongst OHL Sqauds
Bryson Cianfrone has been acquired by the Mississauga Steelheads from the North Bay Battalion. Haven't heard what is going back to North Bay but Cianfrone was originally committed to the University of Michigan and played last season in the USHL for the Cedar Rapids Roughriders. Cianfrone put up 21 points in 52 games last season. He was originally a 3rd round pick by the Battalion in 2011 coming out of the Toronto Marlies Minor Midget program where he put up 96 points in 69 games. Cianfrone is 5'8 170 pounds an can play center or on the wing. If he indeed is going to be suiting up for Mississauga this is a big boost to their offense.
In smaller news, Marc Beckstead was released from the Kingston Frontenacs and subsequently signed with the Gatineau Olympiques of the QMJHL. To date he has played 1 game and has 1 assist and 2 penalty minutes. Gatineau is thought to be a strong contender in the Q this season.

Re: Summer Trades and Activity amongst OHL Sqauds
To Guelph Storm from the Sudbury Wolves defensemen Zach McFadden in exchange for Guelph's 8th Round Pick in 2015.
McFadden had 1 assist and was a minus 2 with 4 penalty minutes in 11 Games with the Sudbury Wolves last season. He mainly played the 2012-2013 season with the Guelph Hurricanes of the GOJHL where he racked up 11 goals 12 assists for 23 points in 44 games as well as adding 104 penalty minutes. He stands 5'11 and weighs 174 pounds and was originally a 12th round pick of the Sudbury Wolves in 2011.
I'm not 100% sure on this last part but I believe he is the older brother of Garrett McFadden the Storms 1st round pick in 2013.

Re: Summer Trades and Activity amongst OHL Sqauds
To Sarnia Sting from Sudbury Wolves goaltender Taylor Dupuis in exchange for a 6th Round Pick in 2015.
Taylor Dupuis was the Wolves backup last season, first for Joel Vienneau and then for Franky Palazzese once he was acquired from Kitchener. Dupuis appeared in 18 games for the Wolves last season going 5-6-1 with a 3.99 GAA and .881 Save %. In Dupuis Sarnia acquires a 6'2 190lbs 1994 Born goaltender. Dupuis and Brodie Barrick (also a 94 born goalie) should split starts in Sarnia until one of the two anoints themselves the starter. Good move for the Sting as they where rather thin in goal, and an injury to Barrick would have meant the Sting going with a 97 born Rookie in goal.

Re: Summer Trades and Activity amongst OHL Sqauds
To Oshawa Generals Josh Sterk from Kitchener Rangers in exchange for a Conditional 4th Round Pick in 2014 & a 6th Round Pick in 2015.
Sterk is a 5'10, 150lbs 18 year old center who was drafted in the 5th round of the 2011 OHL draft 83rd overall. He spent his minor midget season with the Mississauga Senators where he posted 20 goals and 19 assists for 39 points in 37 games.
His first season in the OHL he had 7 goals 14 assists for 21 points in 64 games. Last season he saw a slight improvement with 6 goals and 16 assists for 22 points, but in just 51 games. He's on a path where he'll likely hit 35-40 points this season if he stays healthy and gives the Generals some depth down the middle in case Laughton doesn't return. He'll likely center the 2nd line and see some power play time.
Good pickup in my opinion depending on what conditions the 4th pick comes with. Nice to see the Generals addressing some needs though.

Re: Summer Trades and Activity amongst OHL Sqauds
The London Knights have claimed Owen Stewart off waivers from the Kitchener Rangers.
Stewart is a 6'3, 195lbs right shooting defensemen who played 33 games with the Kitchener Rangers last season, posting 2 goals and 1 assist for 3 points. He played the 2011-2012 season with the Gloucester Rangers of the CCHL where he played in 54 games putting up 1 goal and 14 assists for 15 points. Stewart was a 6th round pick of the Rangers in 2011. He was likely claimed for depth as well as some insurance as Olli Maatta and Nikita Zadorov have been having solid NHL camps and they're are rumblings they may be sticking around for a while.

To London Knights Alex Basso from the Sarnia Sting in exchange for a 2nd round pick in 2015, Barrie's 3rd round pick in 2014 & Kingston's 3rd round pick in 2014.
Alex Basso (D) is entering his 5th season in the OHL. Originally a 4th round draft pick of the Belleville Bulls, Basso has excelled both defensively and offensively in his past two seasons after being traded to the Sarnia Sting. Last season he posted 11 goals and 33 assists for 44 points in 57 games. Basso will almost certainly run the power play in London with Olli Maatta and see significant amounts of ice time in the Knights top 4 defensive pairings. They give up quite a few high picks to get him, but this deal really strengthens their club, especially if all their NHL draft picks are returned.

Re: Summer Trades and Activity amongst OHL Sqauds
To Guelph Storm - (G) Justin Nichols from the Soo Sault Marie Greyhounds in exchange for Plymouth's 3rd round pick in 2015.
Justin will be entering his 2nd full season in the OHL, after being drafted in the 3rd round of the OHL draft by the Greyhounds in 2011. Nichols had a 10-7-1 record in 18 appearances last season with a 3.52GAA and a 0.892 save %. Nichols was unlikely to see much action behind Matt Murray in the Soo, so the move to Guelph makes a lot of sense for him, as he'll likely have the chance to be the starter there.

Re: Summer Trades and Activity amongst OHL Sqauds
To Belleville Bulls from Guelph Storm (G) Jason Da Silva in exchange for a 7th round pick in 2016.
Da Silva is entering his 2nd full season in the OHL after being drafted in the 7th round by the Guelph Storm in 2011. Last season he played sparingly behind veteran Garret Sparks. In 7 appearances (mostly in relief roles) Da Silva went 1-2 with a 4.01 GAA an a 871 Save %. Da Silva comes to Belleville likely in a backup role, however both him and Charlie Graham are both born in 95 an have never been full time OHL starters so there is the outside shot Da Silva could push for more starts with good play. Good move for Belleville as they gave up a late pick 3 drafts away for a back up with some OHL experience.

Re: Summer Trades and Activity amongst OHL Sqauds
To Ottawa 67's (G) Philippe Trudeau from Val-d'Or (QMJHL).
Ottawa also released (G) Clint Windsor.
Trudeau is an overage goaltender who's played the past 3 season's in the QMJHL. He briefly played 3 games with the Moncton Wildcats in 2010-2011 before being moved to the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, where he finished off the 2010-2011 season. Trudeau appeared in 51 games with the Screaming Eagles in 2011-2012, had 4.01GAA an a .877 Save %. Last season he appeared in 27 games with the Screaming Eagles before being moved to Val-d'Or. In Val-d'Or he played 17 games, had a 3.33GAA an a 901 save %.
Ottawa looks to have acquired a veteran goalie with a lot of Major Junior experience. It will be interesting to see how he fairs in the OHL.
*It will be interesting to see if teams like Owen Sound, Kitchener, Sarnia or Windsor will have interest in picking up Windsor, as all these teams have question marks in goal.

No problem, I enjoy doing it. Im glad you appreciate it.
Re: Summer Trades and Activity amongst OHL Sqauds
Owen Sound Attack have claimed Goaltender, Jack Flinn off of waivers from the QMJHL's Sherbrooke Phoenix. Flinn is 6'7 206lbs and born in 1995. With the Phoenix last season he appeared in 18 games posting a 4.49GAA an a 870 Save %. He was originally a 5th round draft pick of the Moncton Wildcats in the 2011 QMJHL draft. This will be his 2nd full season playing Major Junior.
Re: Summer Trades and Activity amongst OHL Sqauds
Mississauga Steelheads have signed defensemen Jared Walsh. Walsh was a 2nd round pick, 38th overall in the 2011 OHL draft. He was originally committed to going the NCAA route and had committed to the University of Michigan. Walsh is 5'11, 176lbs and born in 1996. In his first season of Junior Hockey he suited up with the St. Mikes Buzzers of the OPJAHL and was an integral part of that squad as the won the league championship. He posted 4 goals 17 assists for 21 points in 49 games as a 16 year old rookie. This season in 6 games with the Buzzers he had 2 assists in 6 games.
This move certainly strengthens the Steelheads blue line. Walsh will see high end minutes an play in all situations, as he did with the Buzzers.

Re: Summer Trades and Activity amongst OHL Sqauds
To Windsor Spitfires from Mississauga Steelheads Eric Diodati in exchange for a 6th round pick in 2016.
Diodati is 6'1 187lbs overage defensemen who had spent the previous 2 OHL seasons with the Mississauga organization. Prior to joining the OHL Diodati spent his first 2 Junior seasons playing for the Niagara Falls Canucks of the GOJHL. Diodati's best offensive season was his first in the OHL, 2011-2012. Where he put up 14 in 62 games. He was off to a hot start this season with 1 goal and 4 assists for 5 points in 4 games.
Mississauga was not forced to make this trade as they only had 3 overage players which included Diodati. My assumption is with Jared Walsh committing to the Steelheads, Diodati became expendable. Not exactly sure why Windsor dealt for Diodati as they're already 8 deep on defense and 6 of those defensemen have a wealth of OHL experience. None the less it only cost the Spitfires a 6th round pick 3 drafts a way so all in all a good trade for the Spitfires.
This is the type of trade I'd like to see the Generals get in on if they think they can contend at all this season. A pick outside the top 100 3-4 years away for an overage player that can contribute. As much as the Generals are rebuilding, DJ really isn't giving the youngsters all that much ice time.

Re: Summer Trades and Activity amongst OHL Sqauds
To London Knights - (G) Jacob Riley
Free agent overage goalie Jacob Riley has been signed by the London Knights. Riley was originally a 7th round pick of the Brampton Battalion in 2009. Last season he suited up for the Summerside Western Capitals of the MJAHL. He appeared in 34 games an had a 2.37GAA & 915 Save %. Prior to the 2012-2013 season he bounced around the OHL over the course of 3 seasons. He started with Brampton in 09-10, was then sent to Sudbury midway through the 10-11 season. He suited up with 3 teams in 11-12, Kingston, Owen Sound and the London Nationals of the GOJHL. He's a career backup and posted his best numbers in his rookie season.
Not exactly sure why London signed him as Stolarz and Patterson are firmly set in goal. Also he will occupy an OA spot so this must be a temporary signing. My thoughts are either Stolarz or Patterson is hurting or one has been told the other will be the starter and the one who was told they'd be the back up has asked for a trade.

Re: Summer Trades and Activity amongst OHL Sqauds
To Guelph Storm from Peterborough Petes Steven Trojanovic in exchange for Peterborough's 3rd round selection in 2015.
*Peterborough reacquires their draft pick that was originally dealt to Guelph in 2012.
Trojanovic is in his 5th season in the OHL. He was originally drafted by the Windsor Spitfires in the 3rd round in 2009. He spent his rookie season split between the Spitfires, the OJAHL's Oakville Blades and the GOJHL's LaSalle Vipers. In 2010-2011 he became a full time OHL player but was dealt from Windsor to Peterborough midway through the season. 2012-2013 was Trojanovic's best offensive season posting 10 goals and 17 assists for 27 points in 59 games to go along with 48 penalty minutes and a minus 5 rating. Trojanovic stands 6'1 and weighs 198lbs, and is more known for his steady defensive play rather then his offensive ability. He can steadily produce in the 25 point range however and should add some much needed depth to the Guelph Storm blue line.
Great Deal for the Storm as he'll likely play in their top 4 and play some special team minutes. Adding Trojanovic to the Storm's top 4 takes pressure off youngsters Garrett McFadden and Kyle Locke as well as import Phil Baltisberger.

Great Deal for the Storm as he'll likely play in their top 4 and play some special team minutes. Adding Trojanovic to the Storm's top 4 takes pressure off youngsters Garrett McFadden and Kyle Locke as well as import Phil Baltisberger.
Re: Summer Trades and Activity amongst OHL Sqauds
I'm a little behind on this one but,
Steve Duda to the North Bay Battalion from the Saint John's Sea Dogs of the QMJHL.
Duda is a 6'4, 204lbs defensemen, born in 1994. Last season was his first season of major junior, playing 52 games with Saint John's recording 6 assists and 58 penalty minutes, while being a minus 19 on the season. He was never drafted to the QMJHL or OHL and prior to signing with Saint John's last season he suited up in the EJHL with the Springfield Jr. Pics as well as the Philadelphia Revolution. So far in 2013-2014 he has 3 assists in 9 games with the Battalion to go along with 8 penalty minutes and a plus 1 rating.
This move may be a result of veteran defensemen Zach Bell requesting a trade from the Battalion, as the two play similar styles of defense. Although Bell does have a little more offensive upside.

Re: Summer Trades and Activity amongst OHL Sqauds
A couple minor moves,
Jake Gilmour who Niagara acquired in trade from Kingston this off season, is now listed on the Thorold Blackhawks Jr.B team's roster.
Ryan Shipley, 1994 born defensemen who played 2 seasons with the Ottawa 67's and last season with the Niagara Icedogs has been released by the Icedogs and signed with the London Nationals of the GOJHL. Last season in just 38 games with Niagara he registered 3 assists, 40 penalty minutes and was a minus 20.
In his OHL career his stats read, 116 GP 1G 4A 5PTS 110PIM -14.
Sort of surprised Shipley hasn't caught on any where, he could be a solid depth guy as a 6th or 7th defensemen. Rather then playing a 16 or 17 year old with no experience. My guess is he's been offered that type of situation, but would much rather play and play big minutes in a lower class league.

A pair of #OHL trades today, Saginaw acquires D Daniel De Sousa from Belleville for picks, while Kingston deals F Jean Dupuy to the Soo.
don't know what Kingston got, I assume draft picks
